I was sent the link to an interesting article this afternoon. The United States Department Of Energy (DOE) just announced it will federally subsidize $26 million dollars in for the sole purpose of developing domestic carbon capture technology. Carbon capture works like this: Carbon Dioxide (CO2), is basically captured in the atomsphere and goes through a process of deposition from gas to solid where it will not be of harm. There are actually a variety of greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change but carbon dioxide is the most troublesome because it is dispersed the most often. Thecombustion of gasoline is approxiamted as: C8H18 + 12.5 O2 + 8 CO2 + 9 H2O, where gasolne is burned in air to create water and carbon dioxide as by-products. The reaction takes place millions of times per day around the country as most cars use liquid gasoline as fuel. Below is an example of an electrochemical cell: (Photo courtesy of www.interestingengineering.com)
Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are slowly heating the Earth by trapping solar radiation from the Sun, causing the sphere we call home to gain heat. Carbon capture is a good idea in my opinion because it takes the harmful carbon out of the atomshpere.

Anyway, the DOE has just approved the $26 million dollar for two purposes: in order to " to research, develop, and validate carbon dioxide capture transformational materials, processes, and enabling technologies at bench scale for pulverized coal or natural gas fired power plants that enable step change reductions in current CO2 capture cost and energy penalties. In other words, they want to research ways to make carbon capture cheaper. The DOE included in the announcement it would consider novel projects that are not specific to any one type of carbon capture for "further development" of carbon capture technologies at larger scales.
Guys, tell me what you think below in the comments below.
