Ice- climbing day 2 with video!

in climbing •  7 years ago

Another day, another climb. Since there still is a huge amount of snow, we had to stick to the safe waterfalls, making sure we were not risking getting an avalanche over us. We chose a waterfall that consisted of multiple short sections that were steep, surrounded by flat stretches in between.

The ice was hidden under a layer of snow, making the climbing a little bit harder because we had to clean the parts where we were climbing. You don’t want to hit your ice axe on a rock instead of ice.

To find the route we had to guess sometimes where the best line to climb was since there was not that much ice underneath the snow.

The video gives a short idea how it was to climb, no spectacular free-standing ice pillars, but shoveling snow:

Finally, you get a nice line that is free of snow, ideal for seconding.

Not all belay points are bad, here we had a nice short break where we could sit on some stones and have a hot drink to get warm again.

The last part of the waterfall was really easy according to the guide book, but we experienced some tough condition, when we had to go through waist deep snow to get to the top.

The trees in the valley were Christmas-tree shaped!

The final section to get to the end of the waterfall was a short, but it concluded a really nice route to climb.

Does somebody know how to embed the video in the post?

The introduction post by @heimindanger describes it under 'Easy to integrate for other platforms'. Never tried it myself.

If it's not working, this post seems to provide a workaround.

Hope this helps.

Seems like i cant get into HTML mode anymore. I will try it next time, thanks for giving the links!

You're welcome.
