Coffee and Climbing - What more do you need?

in climbing •  7 years ago

Ohhhhh I'm just sitting here, slowly waking up and trying to talk myself out of getting sick. My throat has been slowly getting more and more sore over the last couple days, and some of the folks in the office here have been passing something around for the last week or two.

Surely, my superior immune system and rock solid genetics should shield me...?

But I'm starting to feel worn down. Maybe it has something to do with all the rain as well. Regardless -- I'm way too busy at work to get sick, so it seems that for that reason alone, I wont allow it. Not this time -- biology and nature.

Not. This. Time.

It's 8:30AM -- and two double espresso's will keep me going

Sitting here at my desk, about to start working, and I heard my fingers clicking and cracking louder than the keyboard. I think to myself, "Sorry, fingers. Sorry, tendons.... This is just how things are going to be for the rest of your lives -- until the day I can afford robot hands". Climbing training has started to be felt -- very much in a good way though. I miss the feeling of being an organic machine -- and I can feel myself getting stronger.

A little GIF animation of flinging myself over a very reachy / dynamic V2 problem. Nothing too difficult. Just some big reaches.

I've had a lot of fun just tossing my phone onto timer & burst mode, and seeing some of the bouldering animations I can make. I expect to have quite a few more of these in the near term. Now I just need to figure out how to get them going on longer, lead-climbing routes....

See you this evening for a big-ass Crushening post (important distinction: do not expect a big ass-crushening post)!

Love the gif. I just failed in my attempt to talk myself out of getting sick. I hope you are better at negotiating these sorts of things.

Haha thanks!

I don't get sick very often, and am still uncertain if it's a bug of some kind, or if I maybe just at some pretzels too fast or somethign and scratched up my throat. Here's hoping!

I've been drinking Emergen-C like its plain ol' juice. I'm not sure it actually does anything but the placebo effect is strong.
This month is hitting a lot of people really hard. I can't wait until it's over and spring starts showing up a little bit more.
Also, you guys are really making me feel like a lazy lump with all your climbing. I'd like to come and be your photographer and then get a few climbs in myself, maybe next week or something?

Yes you go do that with them so I don't have to! lol
Pretty sure the climbing gym is the source of all germs. Let's all sweat and touch little knobs. Great idea! Hehe.

Ohhooooo be careful what you wish for! You're more than welcome to join in. Could always use another climber, or a set of hands to hold a camera. We'll chat this weekend and figure out some days that work nicely -- next week is the start of our "Strength Training" phase, so it'll see a lot of time just in the 'studio area' doing some squats and hangboarding. There should be some weekend climbs happening though!

Coffee and climbing go together like ice-cream and summer. - Can't have one without the other.

A favorite quote of Wolfgang Güllich translates roughly to:
"One does not get a coffee after climbing, drinking coffee is an integral part of climbing."

„Man geht nicht nach dem Klettern zum Kaffeetrinken, Kaffeetrinken ist integraler Bestandteil des Kletterns.“

– Wolfgang Güllich

I haven't seen that quote before, but I love it! I remember reading somewhere that having a bit of caffeine before climbing is actually a good idea for some reason. I'll see if I can find it and report back.

Please do so. I am very curious.

I believe it was this article from Rock & Ice:

The Truth About Caffeine and Climbing

Get better soon dude! Stay hydrated, and get some rest when you can. Honey, ginger, and lemon tea always helps me recuperate.

ohhhh some honey and ginger sounds sooo good. Thanks for the tip!

My green tea looks pathetic next to that espresso. Fuck I miss morning fancy coffee.

Ooph. Yeah you gotta get some decent espresso happenin, bruh.

That's a tough reach! Well least that would be for me. "nothing to difficult" lol.

Hmmm. I should try to remember that not everyone is quite as gangly and long-armed as me. hahaha

Man, i feel you!!!! I was sick on-and-off for TWO MONTHS (thanks, germy snotty kids at work) and it took a huge tole on my climbing progress. Just now getting back at it!

It's the worst! Especially when it prevents you from making progress with training or other goals. Glad to hear you're back at it!
