Sombrero de Paja Toquilla

Panama Hat from Ecuador

Recently @nicollefiallo's mom and brother came up from Ecuador to visit. Her mom brought me a Sombrero de Paja Toquilla (Panama Hat) as a gift from Ecuador. Traditionally, these hats are weaved with leaves from the Carludovica palmata plant, also known as the Toquilla Palm.

It's a light-weight, breathable hat that is best worn with summer attire. It can go well with a summer suit, or with lounge wear. In 2012 the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists added the art of weaving the traditional Ecuadorian toquilla hat to it's directory of important cultural traditions.

Here's a picture of me wearing the Sombrero de Paja Toquilla to add to the Faces of Hive community!
