If you have been following my blog for a while you know that I am by no means a fan of pop culture or the movie industry that is continuously and permanently blasting us with propaganda and artificial narratives that tend to manipulate us to great degree in our daily behavior and worldview.
However, I really dig movies and what some of them have managed to do, to capture and to show - among the sea of medial pieces of trash without any heart.
And since I am getting back into party mode, celebrating the end of my (presumably) last job in the matrix I feel I want to share one of my favorite movies with you all on steem - the glorious and underrated "Human Traffic".
The movie is an innovative and bold celebration of club-culture in the UK during the 90's, a template that is still going strong in Europe and has since changed forms and appearances many times despite remaining true to its core - a dedicated group of cliques exploring their own psyche, lives and choices about their existence in the socio-economic matrix, going partying on the weekend like there is no tomorrow.
Human Traffic follows a group of friends anticipating their temporary getaway from their job and mundane existence on a weekend, exploring their own hangups and life situation to intense, even psychedelic degrees. We get to dive into the subcosmos of how society really treats employees as resources rather than people, how we all need to vent our frustrations and how this can be done in a life-affirming way, exploring our inner states with those we love ina setting of ultimate bliss, far away from the mundanity of people's dreaded 9-5 existence.
The movie features many unconventional techniques and storytelling ideas, tells an initially unseeming story with great clarity, wit and courage and serves as a mighty reminder to periodically take a break when life and matrix demands seem to get too drastic and challenging. We're human beings, we do need a break once in a while. And friends and other states of consciousness can really helps us see that we are made for great things, begging us to find a better way to live than working for a boss we hate just to pay the bills.
And while the movie is more than 20 years old, it has not only aged tremendously well but has also inspired me greatly to keep walking my path, while it managed to tell an engaging and unconventional story in innovative ways that truly deserve more attention by movie lovers.
Despite its dedicated fan base, Human Traffic remains more of an underground favorite. With this little article I hope I could introduce this movie to you a bit, maybe it will call you next time you feel you want to watch something profound yet relatable instead of the average BS series of today. hehe.
Yeah I saw that just recently and I loved it!
