As close I as I could get to a Black Arches moth, aka Lymantria monacha

When I saw the antennae of this moth I was so impressed and honestly bemused by its appearance. I found the moth on the floor still alive but not in a great shape. I took it outside and left it on some plants. Apart from its antennae I noticed the beautiful markings on its wings. Such an impressive little insect.

None of photos I took of this moth were of good enough quality, but I thought, 'why not share anyway?' as I found it and, at least, I learnt its name.

It is called a ‘Black Arches’ moth, Lymantria monacha. It is also known as 'nun moth'. Apparently the male moths have that sort of antennae while the females have much smaller antennae.

You can learn about them in this youtube video.
