Quite a cold day here today so I decided to stay in and just fix a hole developing in a jumper :
That is the current state of the sweater. I had already mended the area and, as expected, the hole reappeared so I needed to deal with it again.
The photo above shows you the state before the mending and a couple of the tools I used : sharp scissors and a good needle. I was pleased to have matching thread handy. Incidentally I was quite surprised to see how the scissors matched the colour.
My mending technique has not got any better yet. I just randomly ‘tried my best’ trying to weave in and out of the weakened machine knitted sweater. This means that the stitches are very fine and hard to catch properly.
Not much to show you apart from the two photos above : one showing the right side and the other the wrong side. It is by no means invisible mending, but it will do its job for a while.
While I was trying to find tutorials on how to mend better on youtube, I found a magic gadget called speedweve loom. I need one urgently !
This page shares the instructions on how to use the gadget but just a quick look at the tutorials on youtube, you can see many examples of their use, like this one which is very good because it takes you through all the weaving process to taking the work off it. There is a lot of talking and explaining on that video but if you just fancy listening to good music and seeing how it is done on denim, this may be for you.
I’ve also now found a couple of options I can purchase at a reasonable price here so I reckon I will be purchasing one to test because my mending would look so cool ( and sophisticated ). In fact, I reckon I might just be tempted to make mending patches just for fun. There’s also an even cheaper option here.
