My rail life #10: Fenglingdu, the ancient ferry and the modern transport 站在黄河的风陵渡口 ︳月旦评

From the south of Inner Mongolia, the Yellow River has been penetrating between the canyons on the borders of Shaanxi and Shanxi. After the river flood down from Hukou Waterfall, the Longmen continued southward, and near Shaoguan, it's blocked by Huashan Mountain and turn eastward.

Fenglingdu is on the corner of the turning of the Yellow River. It is a traffic fortress in three provinces of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Henan. It crosses the boundaries of the three major regions of North China, Northwest China, and Central China. It has been the largest ferry on the Yellow River since ancient times.

The origin of Fenglingdu's name is very lengendary. Huangdi fought against Chi You and defeated Chi You. The emperor's virtuous magistrate made great efforts in the midst of the Great War. Unfortunately, he was killed and buried here. He later built the Feng Hou Ling, or Feng Ling for short.

Fenglingdu Ancient Ferry has historically been connected with the three provinces of Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Henan by the Yellow River ferrying and shipping. Today, a railway bridge turns the Yellow River Scorpio into a thoroughfare, and the later-built Yellow River Highway Bridge flies across north and south to connect the three provinces. Fenglingdu Ancient Ferry is just a legend.

Located between Fenglingdu in Shanxi and Gangkou in Shaanxi, the Fenglingdu Yellow River Railway Bridge is the most important bridge connected North and Northwest China. The bridge was built in 1966 and opened in 1970. It's a steel truss structure with a length of 1181 metres and a width of 12 metres.

At present, the bridge has been out of service, trains need to pass slowly, and new or rebuilt is still being demonstrated.

我在上大学时,周末喜欢乘火车去北京周边的地方游玩。我一般都乘坐一站一停的慢车,由于时间的原因,我很少走的太远。一般情况就是周五晚上出发,周日晚上回来,还要赶下一周的升旗仪式。

在北京为起点的各条铁路线上,我走过最多的就是京原线。我曾经数次乘坐6095次列车去太原、原平、忻州等地玩。但是再往南我就没走过了,因为时间不允许。

2010年国庆节,我终于踏上了南同蒲线的路途。一路上我经过榆次、侯马、临汾、运城、永济,最终在风陵渡原路回京。我看到了心念已久的风陵渡黄河大桥,在这个古老的渡口,我真切地感到了什么是世事变迁。

2015年,听说风陵渡黄河铁路大桥要改建,我又一次来到那里,想再一次拍下这座功勋大桥的雄姿。
