Some Ideas of the “Monthly Review”Translation Program “月旦评”翻译计划的一些想法

Yesterday we officially announced the release of some specific frames and ideas of "Monthly Review" 2018, and you may refer to the “Monthly Review” Development and Planning White Paper v2.0 for details. Everyone is enormously enthusiastic, and a few students have contacted me, hoping to join the translation program. In my opinion, so long as you meet the requirements, I am so pleased to welcome all of you.

As to the translators, we have put forward in the previous white paper framework: incentives for the translation team, which means that the proceeds obtained by the translated articles will be shared by the "Monthly Review" and each author. That is to say, the translators are doing a paid work. Two meanings are clearly expressed here.

It’s not compulsory but profitable for the translators who participate in the translation program.

How to allocate the proceeds of the translated articles?

In the early stage we decide to translate some of the official articles of "Monthly Review", such as the white paper, a variety of planning articles, etc. most of which come from my personal or public advice. At this point, I am willing to authorize translators to translate them, which will be released for free by the "Monthly Review" account, and the proceeds are shared by the “Monthly Review” and the translators.

In order to encourage the translators, we will give priority to the translation of some excellent articles in the early stage, including those that have been authorized to the translators. At the same time, we also encourage the excellent writers who are willing to authorize their works to translators for free at the beginning stage. It is believed that this is not only a support for the “Monthly Review " and the translators, but also very good publicity and promotion for those excellent works and authors.

How do the translators begin to translate? And how to guarantee the quality of translation?

Personally I don’t accept “the big rice bowl” system. In contrast, I prefer the free market model, so I take into account the order taking system. For example, the translators may accept orders and complete the follow-up work depending on their own time, which can not only avoid the influence of low efficiency caused by the mess of apportion, but also avoid the possible time delay because of alternative system.

For the quality of translation, there is no good idea at the moment. In the early stage, we just carry out English translation, and I believe that most people, including myself, can judge the quality of the translated articles, so I don't expect any real problems. In later stages, other languages such as Japanese, Korean may be applied, which might need to introduce the third party review system.That is for later, so no details now.

How to apply to join the translation program of "Monthly Review"?

If you are willing to join the translation program, you may prepare your introduction, including your name, your schedule, English proficiency, areas of expertise, and similar translation you have done, and send them to me, which will be OK within 100 words. Of course, if you want to write a detailed introduction, it is suggested that you write an article and publish it online, and then send the link address to me through WeChat (WeChat: rivalhw please mark: translation).

我们在昨天的时候，正式公布了关于“月旦评”2018版的一些具体框架思路，具体可以见《“月旦评”发展规划白皮书 v2.0》，大家的热情很高，有几位同学已经联系过我，希望能申请加入到“月旦评”的翻译计划中，我对此表示只要符合要求，我们都非常欢迎。

对于翻译者，我们在先前的白皮书框架思想里已经提出：翻译者团队激励，即翻译者翻译的文章获得的收益将由“月旦评”同各位作者共同享有，即翻译作者们会有报酬地进行翻译。这里明确地表示了两个意思：

1、对于参加翻译计划的翻译者，不是义务的，是有收益的；
2、翻译者将和“月旦评”共同享有文章所得SBD收益；

接下来，我们将会对此框架思路进行详细的规划和实现。

翻译文章收益如何分配？

前期“月旦评”考虑会翻译“月旦评”官方的一些文章内容，如白皮书、各种规划内容文章等，这些文章多数出自我个人或众人的建议，这一点，我自己愿意授权翻译者翻译，“月旦评”账户进行无偿发布，所得收益归“月旦评”和翻译者们共享。

为了鼓励翻译者们的积极性，我们会优先翻译前期一些优秀的作品，前期主要包括那些愿意授权给翻译们的作品，同时，我们也鼓励在开始阶段愿意将自己作品免费授权给翻译者的优秀作者，相信这不仅是对“月旦评”和翻译者们前期的支持，也是对那些优秀作品和作者的一种非常好的宣传和推广。

翻译者如何开始翻译？以及翻译质量如何保障？

我本人对于那种大锅饭行为是不认可的，相对而言，我更倾向于自由市场这种模式，所以我考虑采用接单制来进行翻译，如一篇文章出来，可以由翻译者自己根据自己时间来进行接单并完成后续工作，这样既可以避免摊摊派所带来的大锅饭低效率影响，也可以避免轮流制可能带来的时间延误影响。

对于翻译的质量，目前暂时没有较好的构思，好在前期我们刚开始英文翻译，而英文相信大多数人包括我自己都可以判断出文章的质量，所以我认为应该没有太大问题，至于后期，可能会引入其他语言比如日文、韩文等，那就可能要引入第三方审查制了，这个是后话，暂时先不做多思考。
