Neuschwanstein Castle 新天鹅堡

When it comes to Germany's popular attractions, Neuschwanstein Castle is undoubtedly one of the top! This castle not only reflects King Ludwig II's artistic sentiment and romantic ideals but is also beautifully set against the picturesque Bavarian countryside, making it all the more captivating. It serves as a symbol of German tourism and was the inspiration for the iconic castle in Disney theme parks.

The King of Bavaria personally participated in the design, dreaming of turning Neuschwanstein Castle into a fairytale world. The castle is filled with numerous swan sculptures, which is how it got its name. Unfortunately, photography is prohibited inside the castle. After the interior tour, visitors can head to Marienbrücke, the iron bridge behind the castle, to enjoy a panoramic view of Neuschwanstein. It's the perfect spot for capturing stunning photos.

In addition to its aesthetic appeal, Neuschwanstein Castle also prioritizes comfort. For instance, a reservoir was specially built for the castle in a 200-meter-high valley to supply its water needs. The castle is adorned with intricately designed swan decorations throughout, from everyday items, curtains, and murals to even the taps in the washrooms, which are shaped like swans.

🚗 Transportation
To reach Neuschwanstein Castle, most visitors first take a train from Munich Central Station to Füssen, with trains running every hour and the journey taking about two hours. Upon arriving in Füssen, you can catch either Bus 73 towards Steingaden/Garmisch-Partenkirchen or Bus 78 towards Schwangau just outside the train station, both of which will take you to Neuschwanstein Castle.

🏨 Accommodation
Both Füssen and Schwangau are small towns without bustling shopping districts, so most visitors opt to stay in Munich, the nearest major city, and make a day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle. However, if you prefer a more relaxed itinerary and want to experience the traditional Bavarian charm, you can choose to stay overnight in Füssen. The town offers a variety of reasonably priced guesthouses that provide good value.
