Passage du Gua

is a 4.3 km long road which is flooded due to high tides twice daily inFrance which lined on the bottom of the Gulf of Burnёf and linking mainland France to the island of Noirmoutier. When the high tide rises, the 2.58 mile natural passage disappears 13 feet beneath the water. Le Passage de Gois ou Gôa is not only unique but extremely dangerous passage. So people can use this road only two times a day for a few hours. Safety panels have been installed around the passageway to prevent mishaps. Though sometimes people still get caught between the tides, but luckily there are elevated rescue towers for people to climb and wait to be rescued.
Le Passage du Gois hosts an international road running or foot race called Les Foulées du Gois annually which starts at the onset of the high tide. Despite the danger, it attracts a large number of people every year. It is open for a few hours in a day and one can walk or drive past the road only during those hours, i.e. an hour and a half before and after the lowest tide. In 1999 Passage du Gois was used by Tour de Francebicycle race during Stage 2. Passage du Gois was used again in 2011 as the starting point of the first stage.
