Some Chinese in Manila see that death does not put an end to luxury and rich life! In the Chinese cemetery in Manila, the Philippines, the graves are like the palaces of their size and grandeur. They are found in a famous Chinese cemetery in Manila containing a number of tombs, the size of palaces, with all the comforts and luxury!
The shrines of the dead were arranged on either side of a long, clean road. The palaces containing the graves include kitchens, bathrooms and luxury equipment that are integrated, as well as luxurious bedrooms for visiting relatives. So that some of these graves inhabited by relatives who do not mind sharing the place with the dead!
The Chinese cemetery was first established by the Chinese business community in Manila when the Spanish colonists prevented these merchants from using Catholic tombs. Forcing this Chinese group to find their own space to bury their dead, and also made sure that their deceased loved ones feel comfortable in the afterlife, as they describe!
It is believed that the extravagance in the processing of the cemetery and tombs reflects the respect of the Chinese for their deceased family members. Chinese believe that the souls of the dead are moved to the afterlife and that their graves are their homes on earth. Therefore, it makes sense to build a house up to three floors for the dead according to their belief! The bodies of the children are not placed inside the Chinese cemetery, but their bodies are burned and the ashes are placed in a private building inside the neighborhood.
Apparently, the Chinese cemetery was not supposed to show up in Manila with such grandeur. Some of the rich tried to preserve ancient Chinese traditions in the simplicity and economy of burying the dead and processing the cemetery. They made sure that the site was simple and that there was no exaggeration. But it was clear that the majority of the rich had forgotten these traditions and turned to the construction of the tomb. Palaces for the dead!
Given the comfort and well-being of the dead inside the Chinese cemetery, it is no wonder that some of the relatives have lived in these graves, or rather the palaces, permanently. Even some of its inhabitants were born inside those graves! All the amenities of water, sewerage, electricity, telephone lines and cellular communication are available in place, even local restaurants!
The cemetery is a popular tourist attraction in Manila. Tourists can tour the alleys and streets of the cemetery for money and explore the luxury tombs. Interestingly, this cemetery is not the only one inhabited by both the living and the dead. In the north of the same city, some 10,000 people live in another cemetery that has built their homes among the graves and most have refused to settle them elsewhere!
