It's that time of the week that I am particpating in @jubi’s SEO Google contest. The topic this week is the word "假“ which can have multiple meaning like false, holiday, pretend etc. The definition I will be using today will be holiday.

今天來參加 @jubi 的第九期 “谷哥点名” 活動 - 主題假。我選的是假期的'假'

Today is the Mid Autumn Festival in the Chinese calendar and I would like to take this opportunity to see how other South East Asian countries celebrate this occasion and which countries has a public holiday on this special day.

今天是中秋節所以想用這個機會看看不同東南亞國家怎樣慶祝這個特別的日子和誰可以放假一天.

China (中國)

China currently has a super long holiday National Day Holiday and the Mid Autumn Festival happens to be in the middle of it. Most of China is on holiday and people normally go on short vacations or visit friends and family. During the mid autumn festival, Chinese people love eating moon cakes, play with lanterns, have family dinners and some will even worship the moon. Traditionally, mooncakes are sweet made with lotus paste but recently they are made with ice cream, with nuts, or savoury flavours etc.

中國現在有一個非常長的假期就是國慶而中秋節剛剛在這個長假期中間．很多人會在這期間去旅行或者到朋友和家人的家慶祝中秋節．在中秋節期間很多人會吃月餅，玩燈籠，和家人朋友聚會吃飯還有些人會感謝月神。傳統的月餅會有蛋黃和蓮蓉但現在的月餅不是跟以前一樣，會有雪糕月餅，用乾果做的月餅或者鹹月餅都會有等等．

Hong Kong (香港)

In Hong Kong, their celebration is very similar to China. Apart from all the above, there are also Fire Dragon Dance at Tai Hung Village. It runs till the 6th of October so if you are in Hong Kong, you can visit the village to have a look at this tradition. Another old tradition during this festival is kids will burn wax on moon cake tins but due to safety issues, the government urge people not to do it or else they will get a fine.

香港跟中國慶祝中秋節是差不多一樣。在香港也可以到大坑看舞火龍．大坑這幾天到10月6好會繼續有舞火龍看。還有一樣東西就是煲蠟．以前會有很多小朋友在月餅罐上煲蠟但因為安全問題，政府已經叫大眾不要玩這樣東西否則會出罰款。

Japan (日本)

As mentioned in my photo challenge this morning, Japan celebrates the Autumn Festival also but call it Tsukimi. Although this is not a public holiday for the Japanese, they would celebrate this occasion with decorating their roofs with pampas grass, pray in shrines and eat rice dumplings called Dango, taro and other seasonal produce. Another food item Japanese people would eat is soba or undo noodles with nori topped with a raw egg. Recently some fast food stores would introduce fried egg in their hamburgers called Tsukimi burger to celebrate this occasion

在今早的照相比賽貼子裡講到日本都會慶祝中秋節但名字叫做月見．雖然這一天不是公眾假期但日本人會在這天在屋頂放銀葦，到廟拜拜和吃一點糕點叫做糰子, 芋頭和其他食品. 還有一點習俗就是他們會吃一碗荞麦面或烏冬面家上再加一隻生蛋代表好運．最近有一些快餐店會用煎蛋放在漢堡包上用來慶祝這個節日

Korea (韓國)

In Korea, the people celebrate mid autumn festival and its called Chuseok (추석)which means Autumn Eve. Its a major holiday and the nation gets 3 days public holiday for people to celebrate this occasion. Popular traditional items include Songpyeon (made with glutinous rice stuffed with sesame seeds, black beans, mung beans etc), Hangwa (Traditional sweets) and rice wine. Apart from food, Korean people would also worship their ancestors paying their respect.

韓國也會慶祝中秋節而他們叫這天做秋夕．在韓國，中秋節是一個非常重要的節日所以他們都會有三日公眾假期給市民慶祝中秋節．最常用的食物來慶祝就是松片 (用芝麻，栗子等等來做), 韩菓 (一種甜點）和米酒．除咗食物，韓國人也會拜祖先感謝他們．

Taiwan (台灣)

Taiwan‘s celebration is very close to China and Hong Kong where they eat mooncakes and have a feast. The one thing they don't have is lanterns which I read in one of @ygern's post which was quite interesting. Another thing I found which was quite interesting is Taiwanese people would have BBQ meat with the family and would make pomelo hats! I'm sure my boys will love to make one them!

台灣跟香港和中國差不多一樣就是吃月餅和吃大餐．在 @ygern 貼裏面看到原來台灣是沒有燈籠的．還有一點比較特別就是台灣人喜歡在中秋節食烤肉和做一些柚子帽．我想我們家的孩子會非常喜歡這個東西

There are plenty more places where they celebrate Autumn mid festival like Singapore, Malaysia and even some western cities.

在東南亞其實有很多國家都會慶祝中秋節例如星加坡，馬來西亞甚至其他西方城市都會有當地的活動

In Sydney, we don’t get a public holiday so we go to work as usual. We do get mooncakes but only available at Asian Grocery stores. The popular brands sell out very quickly. I haven't seen many places sell lanterns but luckily my mum bought some back last year while she was overseas so the boys will get to play with them this year.

在悉尼我們沒有特別慶祝中秋節還要上班．在這裏可以買到月餅但受歡迎的牌子會好快賣完．近期我很少見到買燈籠但剛好我媽媽上上年買一些給我的兒子玩所以今年他們可以玩燈籠．
