Coastal Low Brings Rain Wind Late Saturday Into Early Sunday

It was another terrific day of weather over Long Island with low humidity, sunshine, and a nice breeze that developed off the ocean this afternoon. Temperatures this evening are in the 70s. It is a pleasant night for out door strolling on the beach or around town or where ever you might like. Tonight will be nice and clear with lows mostly in the low to mid 60s. Friday will be another winner of a day with lots of sunshine and most highs will reach into the lower 80s except for 70s right along the shore. The satellite loop shows virtually cloud free conditions across the Northeast & Middle Atlantic states and there are no issues on the radar anywhere close by.

We now switch to the view of the Jacksonville Florida radar as low pressure is beginning to form here. Notice that the radar echos are showing some counterclockwise turning with the rain in Georgia moving westward while the rain areas in Florida are moving eastward. This is the low that is going to move quickly up the East Coast on Saturday.

The way we see it for Saturday, look for increasing and thickening clouds with a southeast breeze and temperatures that won't get much above the low to mid 70s. Then that low moves up the coast and looks to track to our west. This time of year we always are concerned about tropical storm development. If this low is far enough offshore and over the gulf stream then it could acquire tropical characteristics. If it hugs the coast which appears more likely than it probably won't. Either way the weather outcome from a practical standpoint remains the same. We look for rain to come in Saturday night into Sunday morning and some of that rain could be heavy. Also the wind will pick up along the coast from the Southeast and some gusts to 30-40 mph offshore and at the beaches are possible.

Once the low moves to our north Sunday morning weather conditions will improve somewhat with leftover clouds warm and humid conditions with temperatures reaching into the lower 80s. Next week will be a warm humid one with the threat for downpours and thunderstorms everyday. It looks as if these air masses from Canada with low humidity and sunshine won't be back anytime soon and certainly through the end of July.
