This is a jar of cold pressed, unrefined, unscented coconut oil. In fact, most coconut oil you find on the market is nothing like what comes out of the press. You can see this oil is not clear, but yellow, and when it cools to around 20 degrees C or lower, it does not form a solid block until it is a lot colder (like 13 degrees or so) like the purified forms.
The cyrillic on the label says, in latin script: kokosovo maslo (coconut oil) BEZ AROMAT - this means without perfume. The natural product does not smell like this, the scent is present in the milk and to some extent in the white flesh inside a coconut, but when you dry and press the flesh, there is very little of this.
Most coconut oils you find are highly overpriced, overprocessed refined products. Be careful out there. Coconut oil is truly a wonderfood, but I doubt that you will get half the benefits unless you get a clean, organic, unrefined form like this one..
I just buy the organic stuff from Whole Foods. It looks like that when it's warm though. Is that a good brand?

if it doesn't smell strongly of coconut scent, and has a relatively strong colour, its probably good. The purified oils are still yellowish, just not as intense an this.

It doesn't really smell at all! I'm gonna do some more research when I get home so I can see the brand name. Thanks for the info.

So does the organic coconut oul only solidify at about 13C? I've seen coconut oils solidify at around 20C and even higher?

yeah, it starts to solidify, and it's mostly white at about 18 degrees but you can scoop it out easily, it's not hard at all. This is pretty strong evidence of its being unrefined, because it takes a relatively small number of substances in a mixture to start to disrupt its freezing point as a solution, I know this from many many frustrating times trying to crystallise things that are not pure or are an incorrect mixture (try extracting DMT from that asian acacia, for example, it will crystallise in the freezer but it melts quickly even after you carefully discard all the excess remnant solvent). The oil should be pretty white when it's solid, but a natural product won't do that sorta crystallising thing that refined coconut oils do (little radial blobs that grow mostly on the sides of the container).
I am being very approximate with the temperatures, I don't really know how hot it is these days, but this oil, as a metric, does not fully harden until a temperature it is uncomfortable to be naked for a long period of time.

Thank you, I appreciate that information. Coconut oil has become a bit of a fad with the banting diet, and although I don't follow the diet, coconut oil is useful for many things, including cooking. Now I have a few more pointers.

I've tried three different brands of coconut oil, the best I've tried was a certified organic, cold pressed coconut oil, - this one has the coconut smell and doesn't go yellow when melted, it's clear white.
just got one the other day from the supermarket which was a supermarket brand, this one doesn't have the coconut smell.

My whole life has been a lie. All this time I have been using clear coconut oil.

Good information. I always use unrefined, organic coconut oil for cooking, baking, and as a moisturizer, when I'm not using other oils (olive and hemp are two of my other favorites). The coconut flavor of the oil pairs well with Indian and Thai dishes.

I actually don't like the smell, or at least not always. The smell is good in exotic foods like cooking it with shrimp the asian way.

if you want that smell, the best way is to just use dessicated coconut or coconut milk. The smell is just quite volatile, I think, so they extract it and add it back. Or it could even be synthetic, in some cases (I wouldn't put it past people...)
yeah, the coconut scent combines very nicely with stuff like fresh coriander and curry, I love thai coconut curries.

If it doesn't look much like this one, it's been extracted, fractionated, recombined and perfumed with the scent oils. Probably even the fats are somewhat damaged by this process. If it's cold pressed, and unscented, you can be pretty confident you are buying what comes out of the oil press, and not out of a factory that resembles an oil refinery.

Dang. I've only ever gotten my hands on the clear stuff that solidifies into a white mass. What's getting refined out that they aren't they letting me have?

I think, because of the hype surrounding Medium Chain Triglycerides (MGTs) they are selling the isolated MGTs in upscale fancy preparations, and selling the guff that is harder to sell, and less beneficial (specifically, lauric acid, which composes about half of the oils) though 'technically' lauric acid does not behave the same way, even though it is structurally similar.
Also, the cosmetics industry heavily uses coconut oil to synthesise all kinds of things. Coconut oil also contains other things, in smaller amounts, like betaine. You won't have to read many hair product ingredients lists before you come across this one. Cocamidylbetaine and other derivatives, I am pretty sure, are manufactured from some fraction of the coconut oil.
Don't quote me on that, but it is a pattern in chemical industry to take naturally occurring mixtures, fractionate them, and then recombine them, maybe leaving some bit out, or adding something else. The salt industry does the same thing. The reason why most table salt is literally nearly laboratory grade NaCl is because of all those very expensive micronutrient minerals that are hard to find elsewhere, are fractionated off, because selling the lab chemical as food, and the expensive micros makes more money than selling just plain old evaporated seawater. The same principle, but just a different mechanism.
and yes, this is an example of the outcomes of a fascistic type of socialism, well, socialism, government, same thing, in my view, where hidden 'wise men' pull the strings of a gaggle of professional actors called politicians, to trick people into doing things they want them to do based on false justifications. Just as occurred with the tobacco industry, a lot of people would have lost their jobs in the short term, and this special interest group then conspired for 50 years to keep the science from becoming publicly known. They are doing the same thing with chemical industry, medicine, insurance, banking, transport, the whole complex is tied together with these hidden strings.
The elites know that the agenda they are prosecuting will lead to an extinction event. Did you ever think about why it was that they skipped past the moon and now, since about 2000, have been going on about mars? That's what they think they are going to do, once they have completely disrupted the balance that keeps life going on this planet. They probably already have a lot of the plan together, and when they decide the inflection point has come, just like in the book Stark, they think they are going to live happily ever after on a planet without a natural magnetic shield against the sun.
HAH. that's only going to happen if the right combination of genetics comes together to allow us to adapt. I don't think that the technology alone will give us this. So they probably will end up there on mars, and discover they have all become sterile, and their vicious backstabbing shit leads to a lord of the flies and bye bye.
Meanwhile, the real survivors to be already have the adaptations ready and at the inflection point these changes will take place.
I believe that humans will mutate within their own lifetimes, or within only a few generations, to adapt to post-terrestrial life, and included in that package will be the ability to remediate the damage to the planet.
just my opinion, of course...

Few days ago I wrote a post about coconut oil and how I use it. :)
Mine is extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil but it doesn't have that yellow-ish color.

yeah, I had never seen coconut oil like this one before. It's european bio certified and by its physical properties I can tell it really is what it says it is. Most of the others on the shelf near it (at the Fantastiko supermarket next door, they have a whole aisle for healthfood, though most of it is silly rubbish biscuits), looked nothing like this one. I saw ones which said they were extra virgin cold pressed (the term extra virgin actually means cold pressed, by the way, or it used to, and back in the old days, it was far cheaper than the refined crap, I remember seeing the giant tins out the back of italian restaurants - these days you gotta check pretty close at these things, there is so many shyster bastards riding this while in fact selling industrial rubbish).

Wow, thank you for the useful information.
I'm going to pay more attention next time I purchase coconut oil, the one I have right now is the first one I ever bought.
But yeah, in supermarkets you have to be careful and check out everything, read the labels and ingredients, especially in the "healthy" section where probably more than half of the stuff is not healthy at all.

yup. 90% of the health food sections, and indeed, many health food stores, is overpriced rubbish that is only marginally better than the industrial products.
