Coconut Oil - for dental care - and so much more!

[This one's a personal experience]

I've always thought Coconut Oil was good as a baking ingredient, but I stumbled across this post on Facebook about how some people are recognizing it's health benefits; its great for the hair, skin and dental care. Being the skeptical person that I am, I researched on it and found a lot of positive reviews. It was just my luck when I went grocery shopping and I found some Coconut Oil at my usual store and I decided to buy some; it wasn't that expensive so it wouldn't hurt to try it.

I read that the best time to use it is early in the morning as soon as you wake up. I took one tablespoon full of coconut oil - pretty much all I can take so I can easily swish it around. Just do this for 15-20 minutes. If you can't help it (because for me, at someone point, I just really need to get rid of whatever's behind my throat), you can always spit and repeat until you make that 15-20 minute mark. It's very important that you DO NOT SWALLOW the oil after swishing. Spit then brush your teeth after.

The result? As soon as I got done brushing, I could no longer sense any aftertaste of whatever it was I ate. My breath smelled fresh, sure, because of the toothpaste but before I started using coconut oil, I could still sense in my palate any meal I've had. And it's completely different than when you're using the standard mouthwash (like Listerene) because the chemical is so strong and so minty that your breath would instantly smell fresh. With the coconut oil, it was simply CLEAN. And we've all tried morning breath, but the coconut oil even helped lessen that heavy, stinky feeling upon waking up. I never expected it to be that effective. It was at that point that I made coconut oil a staple in my dental hygiene.

It may seem I'm exaggerating, but if you're a person who has doesn't like using the standard mouthwash because it's too strong or if you have dry skin (to the point of it being flaky or itchy) or thin hair, you know you'd have to be careful in any products that you'd let your body try and coconut oil is absolutely heaven sent! As long as you know where it's coming from, you know it's safe and organic (except if you're allergic, of course). Apart from knowing where it's coming from, I found that it's better to use the VIRGIN coconut oil versus the standard or extra virgin coconut oil. I've tried all three, and so far, the virgin coconut oil has provided the best result.

I've enjoyed using it on my hair (massaging a few drops on my scalp before bathing), my skin (just lather a few drops on dry areas then pair it off with my usual lotion because I like the smell) and even on my stretch marks.
