Bitter coffee? Skip the sugar and give salt a try.

I started drinking coffee with my dad when i was 6. I took it like him- two spoons of sugar- for years. Then as a young adult, i also added cream. My husband, @goatgarden, tried for years to convert me to drinking it black, like he does. Finally about 3 years ago I made the switch. I have heard about adding salt. I had bought a new brand of coffee a couple months ago, and really didn't care for it. ( But i wasn't going to let it go to waste. ) So i added salt to the basket with the grounds. It does indeed make it more palatable. I'll have to remember this when we get coffee away from home. :)
