Coil monetization is an easy way for you to monetize your online content without ads.

According to analytics by w3techs.com, Google ads are used by more than 25% of all websites. That's not even counting the other ad networks being used.

“Coil uses an open API called Web Monetization in order to pay sites in real-time.” — coil.com

In addition, by using Coil you can drastically improve site load speed and improve the user experience.

Here's a tweet by the CTO of Ripple, David Schwartz discussing Coil monetization.

With a follow-up by the CEO of Ripple, Brad Garlinghouse.

By using Coil, Wikipedia is already earning donations from Coil when Coil users visit the site.

What is Coil?

Coil monetization is a method for online content creators to get paid for their content.

Check out this early talk by Stefan Thomas, founder of Coil.

Keep in mind, Coil is not an end-all solution to web monetization. Certain companies like Google, Bing and Yahoo will continue serving you ads.

Afterall, serving ads is sorta their business model...

However for you and I, Coil is the solution to our own online monetization efforts.

As you know, Today's content creators rely heavily on ad platforms. Afterall, ad monetization is our source of income.

However, there's gotta be another way for us to pay each other for our entertaining content.

Here's the solution

Coil Monetization

By using Coil's automattic tipping system, coil users can help give back to online content creators.

For instance, say you like a certain blog about cooking, crypto news or fitness — the longer you stay on the Coil monetized site, the greater the tip.

This doesn't mean that you won't have to see online ads as a Coil user. Afterall, serving ads is still up to the content creator.

With this in mind, having a fallback monetization method for non Coil users is a viable solution.

How Coil Web Monetization Works

If you are a Coil user, you're charged a flat fee of $5 per month. Payments must be made by credit card.

With this $5 subscription, Coil will donate money to the Coil enabled sites you visit.

Benefits of Using Coil Monetization

No Policies, No Guidelines

Coil doesn't have strict policies or content guidelines. By using Coil for web monetization, you are essentially cutting out the middleman.

As a content creator you are an artist and should be treated as such. Be free with your content.

Conclusion

The problem with Ad networks is they stop content creators from being their true selves. They force strict user guidelines and policies that interfere with their creativity.

By using Coil monetization, they are free to focus solely on their content. This benefits both parties; the content creator and the viewer.

Coil is currently available for beta access with an invite code. However, you can still use Coil to monetize your blog, YouTube channel and Twitch Channel.

Start using Coil by creating an account, installing the Coil Chrome extension and adding a credit card to your account at coil.com.
