I just used Steemit as a platform for buying things.

Steemit is a great platform as it can be used to monetize content through the proof-of-brain.

But can Steemit used also for paying possible services or goods?

Why not? I experienced a first trivial transaction and I will explain how in the next lines.

As I'm a collectionist of old coins -I mean real coins not cryptos :-) - and I bloged about it here and here

One of the people that I follow on Steemit which is @robmenzies saw my articles about the old coins I collect and told me that he also had some old coins. Which are the ones you see below.

I was interested to buy them and give him some steem coins for those old coins.

But how could we make the transaction ? He is living in Doha, Qatarr and I live in Italy. So we agreed on trusting each other and making this transaction based only on trust. So I would give him half of the steem coins and he would send me a note that he in the meanwhile had already sent me the coins through ordinary mail.

Finally, we did the transaction and I got my old coins and @robmenzies got his steem coins.

And he was so kind as to include some more coins..

...and banknotes as you can see below.

This case shows how steemit is enabling a communication channel which can be used for exchanging ideas, upvotes, comments but also value and valuable goods and services.

In this case however, me and @robmenzies used our good will and mutual trust to make the transaction but in order for this usecase to be a common thing on the platform a better combination of software and hardware tools should be done.

If there could be finded a way to make exchanging of goods and services on the steemit platforms as easy as delegating voting power, then steemit may really have a bright future.

..and until the next post, have fun :-)

That was certainly an interesting test of concept @alketcecaj, and certainly a new way of trading for me, but i think as we know our trust in each other grew as the transaction went through, and helps to make stronger friendships here on the platform.

I suppose one way to combat the trust issue is something like an eschrow acct on steemit which releases depending on the terms, certain amounts once milestones have been reached. So for example if you buy a book on steemit for 10 sbd, once you have received a valid awb 50% is released, and then on arrival the remaining is released. If none of the conditions are met it’s released back to the buyer. The buyer could then have an option to blacklist the seller if need be.

Yes, a nice reading is this article here https://steemit.com/steem/@coinsen/we-now-accept-steem-dollars-as-payment . I know there is a platform for online shopping called coinsen which accepts steem dollars among many other crypto https://www.coinsen.com/index.php?coin=steem

Its really nice hobby to collected coin ....some time its more profitable...

Yeah sometimes :-)

i see Malaysia note, haha

Yes :-) now I have a Malesia note as well ;-)

I remember reading about this trade from the point of view from @robmenzies a while back. I've bought a few things for Steem myself, and it feels very cool to get your hands on some physical things bought with money earned by blogging ;)

Absolutely :-) Getting a reward is always a pleasure! In particular for what regards Steemit this pleasure is greater as your reward is also a proof that you are making valuable content and contributing to the growth of the platform. I hope one day Steemit will provide such end-to-end services to its users without the trust normally needed for a transaction to happen. I also remember the @robmenzies point of view in his post. It was a great surprise and pleasure to read his post about this transaction :-)

Wow. But i fear that trust maybe abused

Fear is not going to take you anywhere. Moreover, research shows that people that trust others are more intelligent which is the case of @alketcecaj and @robmenzies lol :-)

Haha, while it's great to not be afraid of everything, fear is also pretty useful at times. There are medical cases that can lead to the total removal of experiencing fear, but this can put the person in some seriously dangerous situations. So, fear is best in moderate amounts.

Ok course the totally fearless people will go and kill themselves but I'm not talking about this kind of extreme cases! I'm talking about the kind of fear that is useless and stops you from acting! This kind of fear is something we should overcome and/or finally control. Just like the joung birds which in order to live the nest should take courage and make the jump .... and fly!

Hehe, I see your point :)

I'm glad you do :-)

Yes we should definitely think in a more profound way about fear!

Yeah, sometimes it can be a really good thing. Other times it can be pretty annoying, and potentially ruin a good opportunity. I guess we need to learn when to trust our fear, and when to ignore it.

Definitely!

Yes, there are some risks to take and I took the risk :-)

;-)

This is something technical that can be solved

Yeap, and it could be a business idea as well .. let's make a startup given that you are masters of innovation in Israel ;-)

:) I wish I had this title ;) But if you have any ideas I am all ears (eyes actually :))

I'm actually studying the steem blockchain so I might take it seriously ;-)

Maybe making the transaction pending in a way. Or creating an account that rewards a good transaction and gives penalties to fraudulent accounts...

Yeah, there are many ideas that could lead to implementation!

That's definitely a valid concern. However, I hope that someone will create a Steem marketplace in the future, where we can trade and give public feedback to the traders, in order to minimize the trust issues.

It will definitely go that way! The potential is immense !

Yes, absolutely. Steem is in a great spot for this because of free transactions as well as the potential to make some interesting things such as "pay with upvotes".

Also the first SMT which just ended a successful ICO of 4 million is advertising this posibility on their video. It is called APPICS. Here you find more about it

I'm actually pretty excited for Appics! I'm for sure keeping an eye out on the development of this project.

Me too :-) Invested a small amount and I'm also supporting them on twitter.

with creativity and trust you can do anything :) nice job @alketcecaj & @robmenzies

Congratulations on this brilliant use of Steem @alketcecaj. Some people use Steem to buy silver like this post-> https://steemit.com/@jrcornel/steem-silver-round-my-newest-collectible. Steem can also be used to purchase services like translation of creating images or bounty.

@neoexian even runs his own bank. The limit is trust. He takes collateral. Who will send it first and what is there to back your guarantee except your word for it?

Thank you @minepoly :-) You always give me great advice! Between man of honour the trust is always possible ;-)

Thanks, I will check them !

The steemit.com can become a really good platform to sell traditional things online with mutual trust.

There is a possibility of removing or reducing the trust needed if someone creates a Steem app that are able to have a record of the transactions, and let people rate and give feedback to the traders.

Exactly@Valth.

Absolutely!

so good information thanks for @alketcecaj
