A tote is a form of a betting game that arose in Ancient Rome, where gladiatorial fights were used as betting instruments. As the world moved ahead, this form of betting entered our entire sporting fabric, engulfing baseball, horse races, and football, as well as many other facets of our gaming world. This time, however, with the advent of the blockchain technology, a decentralized form of this betting system is introduced, not with gladiators or sports teams, but with cryptocurrencies – thanks to coinrace.

What is coinrace? A decentralized betting game

Coinrace is a decentralized betting game built on the Ethereum network with a focus on race tracks, this time, cryptocurrencies are marked on these cars. Realizing the reward in betting on coinrace is achieved through smart contracts, built in Solidity. Coinrace is built from scratch and has a working Dapp. This differentiates it from other decentralized games which are mostly whitepapers or are in beta versions for life. Additionally, this makes it a game that isn’t just a clone of other decentralized games like how copies of Cryptokitties were flowing around the decentralized gaming world not long ago.

Playing coinrace

The game is currently in beta mode but players can play or purchase tokens. To do any of these things, the Metamask plugin is need to be installed inside your browser to allow you make seamless transactions on the Ethereum network. This allows players to play the game on Ropsten or on Mainnet, where the type of race preferred by the player is selected. Anyone can participate in coinrace by going here: http://coinrace.co.

These are the choices available for players on coinrace.

  1. The Old School Race – cars are represented by traditional cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin.

  2. The Smart Coins Race – cars are represented by cryptocurrencies that support or can be used to build other decentralized systems like Dapps or smart contracts. This part contains Ethereum, EOS, Cardano, and NEO.

  3. The Bitcoin Forks Race – contains Bitcoin Fork coins, including Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin Cash, as well as Bitcoin itself.

  4. The Anonymous Race – for the lovers of secrecy and those who have the strong conviction that real coins should be anonymous. This part contains Slash, Bytecoin, Monero, and Dash.

Coinrace in the near future – taking decentralized betting games further

As a decentralized betting protocol, the game will, in the future, integrate with and use the power of the Raiden Network as well as Plasma, possibly, to ensure seamless transaction processing, near-zero fees, and fewer network issues.
There will also be an integration of an internal decentralized exchange (DEX), that will ensure that any ERC20 token is accepted and can be used on coinrace.

Conclusion

Coinrace, as a decentralized betting game, is not just a platform for playing and winning or making bets. It would also be a platform where other totes can be built and where players can construct their own games and earn from their creativity.
