You can expect another dry and seasonable day across Long Island before a soggy one tomorrow.
Skies will be mostly sunny today, with seasonably chilly highs around 40°. Clouds will increase tonight with showers developing after midnight. Rain will be with us through most of the day tomorrow. This storm has developed into a potent one and is currently bring snowy and stormy weather across the central US. That being said, the rain and wind with last Friday's storm will not be as bad with this one. Expect about .5 - 1" of rain, with a stiff southwest breeze that will bring temperatures well into the 50s.
Skies will clear Friday night and the sun will return on Saturday, but colder air will come rushing back in. Temperatures will fall through the day: 50s in the morning, 40s for the afternoon, and 30s by the evening. Sunday will be a cold day, but it is now looking dry. A wave developing over the Tennessee Valley looks to run to our south as a very cold high builds in from the north. We may be spared for Sunday, but another storm develops on New Year's Eve Monday. This one looks to come up to our west, which means rain and not snow. Should the system reach us early enough on Monday or even Sunday night however, there could be some sleet or freezing rain concerns for parts of the area.
That rain may linger into the first hours of the New Year, but my current forecast for New Years's Day is mostly cloudy, with highs in the 40s. This active pattern will continue later into the week and with colder air eventually coming back into play we will need to be on the lookout. The Euro is still hinting at a big storm nearby heading into the first weekend of 2019. --Geoff
