New Addition

in collections •  7 years ago  (edited)

When I joined here on Steemit I wrote in my introduction post that over time I will share things that I like to do. Here is one of them. Stamp collecting isn’t something I obsess over, but just something that I enjoy doing from time to time. I do buy stamps when I can since some can become quite costly. Lol

These are the 2 two I got yesterday!

I thought I would start sharing my collection by showing the 2 new additions to my collection. Yesterday in the mail I finally received my stamps that I pre ordered earlier in the month.

The first one is titled “Have a Ball”. USPS came out with this collection of sports balls to celebrate America’s passion for sports.

“Have a Ball”

The last one got me so impatient. I was very excited when I heard what kind of stamp this one is. This one was titled “Total Eclipse of the Sun”. Many may know the reason why USPS came out with this stamp, but for those that don’t I’ll tell you. This coming August on the 21st, there is going to be a solar eclipse that passes over parts of the US. I mean how is that not exciting. I know I'm excited! Haha

Here is why I was so excited about this stamp coming in. This is the first time that USPS has used thermochromic ink on their stamps. What that means is that it reacts to heat. Below I’ve shown a little gif of how cool these are! If you right click it to view the image on a separate page it'll shrink a bit so it'll be easier to look at. :)

Over time I'll share more of what I have in my collection.

Tell me what collections you have!

❤️

*edit: I meant to share with you the full path it will take across the States.

Wow they're both pretty cool!! You know where I live? Madras, Oregon. You know how many people they estimate coming here just for this damned eclipse? Well, let's just put it, over 1 million are expected to just come to Oregon alone, and Madras has been dubbed "Solar City". Having two festivals and eeeeeeverything. Husband and I will be closing up shop (locking our bottom gate cause we live on the highway) and hulled up in our house for that whooooole week. All the small towns out here are frightened because there's just not the economic structure for so many visitors at once. It's definitely going to be interesting.

Oh man. That will be crazy. I'll bet that would make for a good post to showcase how many come etc. Will you be out watching it?

I think I need to buy the glasses. Haha. I am not terribly excited for it, but I think mostly just because of what's going to happen around here. It's going to be the height of wildfire season and people new to the area aren't ever responsible enough. :(

I bet it would be a good post, if anything interesting happens! Haha.

Yea my husband and I need to get glasses if we'll be watching it. We'd have to drive out a couple hours I think. I don't even know exactly where we'd need to go. I know its close to the south west of KY. We'll see though. I definitely get why you wouldn't be all up for it. I do hope people will be responsible and respectful there. :(

I do hope you'll post something regardless of what happens. I might do something, we'll see. lol

You'll probably get a good view if you get close to that town there in that map in the SW of KY. As long as there's a nice clearing and no clouds! Haha.

I had found a pretty good spot that would be dab smack in the middle of the path but its about a 3 and half hour drive. Have to see if my husband can book that day off. Then we can do a weekend trip for it. Camping or something would be fun. There is a place closer to us though that we would be able to see it. It won't have the same full coverage. lol So we'll see.

Here it's happening before 11am! I dunno what time for there.

Here it'll be starting at about noon but the totality till be around 1pm. If I go to the best spot I'll be able to see it for almost 2 minutes and 40 seconds I think. Roughly. lol

I love the eclipse stamps!

Awesome right? I got excited when it said it was shipped lol

I'm always using up my stamps. I'll be looking for that eclipse on August 21st.
