Awesome rant. Couldn't agree more.

People just aren't in the habit or targeting their curiosities and diving in.

It's like they want other people to say they learned things more than necessarily learn them, and it's easy to see how it flows out of the whole forced schooling mindset.

Right now there are so many people who look for "having a diploma" when they hire someone, but I wonder if there will come a turning point, where the jobs you'd actually want would prefer you had interesting experiences to talk about or some sort of portfolio of work.

Something has to give at some point, because it doesn't make sense to spend so much time and money to like loosely learn a few things that aren't too important, especially when it's so easy to learn for free now, as you say.

Thanks.

I think the new leaders of industry will and are seeing the value in work and not relying on what hoops someone may have jumped through. Not sure if you follow @garyvee This is a guy that has built a huge following and multi million dollar companies. He believes in hard work over education all day long

awesome, don't know @garyvee but I hit follow on his account so I'm subscribed now

Yes love this guy. Very frank and drops the F-bomb a lot. Search him on youtube and find some of his past live talks. Some good stuff

true

CA is one of the last states that allow lawyers to become a lawyer through an apprenticeship with an actual lawyer. However, big technological companies are yearly obtaining working overseas because there are not enough qualified US workers to do their jobs. https://www.myvisajobs.com/Reports/2018-H1B-Visa-Category.aspx?T=JT

Not qualified of not willing to work for lower wages? I understand that there can be gaps in the system. Seems to me in the last 10 years many 20 somethings do not want to work in most any industry

What do you think? Crazy talk or do you agree that college can be a waste of money?

Complete and utter waste of money for most people. Go and get a one-year certificate for a trade or two-year degree if utterly necessary. Later in life if you truly need a four-year or higher to meet a specific goal...then maybe. GET A TRADE FIRST PEOPLE! That is what I told my kids and both of them have been glad they didn't dive in on a four-year degree at a young age not really knowing themselves or what they wanted in life. The debt that many people rack up for some of these four-year degrees is preposterous!
