Does color impact the usage of social media and smart phones?
Three students in Ireland did an experiment aimed to find the correlation between color usage in social media and mobile phone and addiction in youth. They changed the color filter to greyscale, leaving the display in black and white in iPhone screens. Results from the survey showed 78% of the participants found having no color on their phones challenging. 74% reported better sleep and 52% having a better mood during the experiment. It can be concluded from the experiment that color greatly effects device and social media usage. According to Jill Morton, color professor, a black and white image sustains interest for less than two-thirds of a second, however colored images hold the attention for two seconds or more.
Studies show that we decide in a mere 90 seconds whether we like a product. Moreover, 90% of the decision is based solely on colors. We mostly reject clothes and footwears based on colors.
