"Humming bird" plant macro. Crocosmia Lucifer. My hummingbirds love the red flowers of this plant.
Crocosmia is a small genus of flowering plants in the Iris family of "Iridaceae". It is native to the grasslands of southern and eastern Africa, ranging from South Africa to Sudan.
They grow extremely well in Vancouver, Canada, where they easily survive the winter. (even snow). They are commonly known in the USA as "coppertips or falling stars", and in the United Kingdom as "montbretia". This is what the plant looks like while in full bloom. The first flowers appear at the end of June in Canada.

The genus name is derived from the Greek words krokos, meaning "saffron" because the dried leaves have a strong smell of the spice saffron.
I took this GREEN photo of the leaves in my own garden.
This is my entry for #colorchallenge Thursday Green. #colorchallenge is a contest initiated by @kalemandra.
