#colorchallenge Monday Red - Hawthorn Berries? UK ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHY

At this time of year, we have an abundance of red berries in the trees and bushes, waiting for the birds to feast on during the cold weather.

The delicate flesh of the berry is protected by the harsh thorny branch (which actually took out my new jumper taking this picture!).

Berries are one of my favorite subject matters at this time of year. Wild birds depend on them for survival during these cold winter months. You have to imagine how hard the ground can be during the frosts in the winter season, making hunting for worms and other land loving slug like creatures, nae on impossible.

I believe these are Hawthorne berries, which incidentally are edible to humans as well as birds, however I wouldn't eat them unless this was confirmed by a more knowledgeable person, as some berries in the UK are poisonous to humans. Plus the birds need them more than I do right now!
