Indigo has been quite a confusing colour for me as it seems like everyone has a different idea on what it is. Trying to find what the colour Indigo truly looks like was quite a challenge on google too. I enjoyed these two answer I got from the following link:

Unless your computer is calibrated to the Pantone spectrum, it's unlikely you'll see colors exactly accurately on your screen. Indigo is a natural pigment which comes from plants. Here is a dot of natural indigo on paper:

While Indigo refers to a general color that to my eye is a darker, cool-toned blue tinged with violet. Most natural indigo is from the Indigofera plant, which grows in tropical regions. Today, however, most indigo is synthetic.

Isaac Newton popularized indigo as the name of one of the 7 basic colors of the spectrum. He explained his reasons: because 7 is a perfect number built into the fabric of the universe and the laws of nature. Examples included in the 7 planets (at the time the sun, the moon, and the 5 planets known at the time). Newton was first and foremost an alchemist (at a time when alchemy had already been succeeded by chemistry). Inventing physics and calculus was just his day job.

At the time, "blue" referred to the dominant hue of the sky, as perceived by the human visual system (about 475 nm), compared with the modern concept of blue, which is closer to 460. Since then our conception of blue has shifted downward, in large part due to synthetic dyes invented in Prussia and more broadly in Germany in the 19the century. At the time it was considered leading-edge chemistry. It revolutionized the textile industry and changed how people think of colors. We now think of "color" as something intense, with high saturation. At one time, "bright-colored clothes" referred to something more muted.

In Newton's day "indigo" referred to the color of the dye from the indigo plant, or what people today would call blue. As the definition blue got shifted downward, indigo shifted too. Today indigo usually means something on the borderline between blue and violet, or about 447 nm.

When I looked at this Yellow-breasted Macaw I decided that the bottom section of his top side feathers and tail looked like Indigo to me, I might be wrong but it seems like the colour Indigo depends on the eye of the beholder.

The Macaw is native to South America and the Yellow-breasted Macaw is one of six genera. Macaws can reach a size of 86cm, weigh between 900 -1500g and lives up to 35 years.

This Macaw mate for life. The female lays up to 3 eggs and incubates it for 28 days. The chicks leave the nest after 98 days.

This is a very intelligent and social bird and are popular pet’s due to their ability to copy words if repeated to them and can be hand reared.

We came across this Macaw yesterday at an animal farm. He was quite the charmer and kept on saying "Hello" and calling us when we tried to leave. My daughter fell in love with him and now for the next few weeks I will not hear the end of her wanting a parrot.

I really liked the colors. Composition of your picture is simply perfect.

Thank you very much codebreaker.

What a beautiful colours! Thanks for sharing!

When I think of indigo, my first thought is always the song "Mood Indigo" by Duke Ellington, so one could say that for the musically inclined, indigo is also a sound and a feeling. :)

Absolutely love your comment hartiverse. We have a song "Indigo girl" by a local band called "Watershed". Song is filled with so much emotion. Hope you will enjoy it just as much as I do.

Very interesting and beautiful post. I really think color and music make the world go around. LOL

Excellent photos and a very interesting post. I've always wondered about the color too, as I know indigo as a dark blue, and some see it again as a shade of purple. That's why I don't enter any photos on Saturday, because, to me, blue is blue, just in different shades. I would like to see some challenges for white and pink, for instance.

I agree with you snapperlize, thank you for your comment.

What a beautiful picture of a parrot! Too cute!

oh dear
marvalous color :)

It is amazing! So juicy color!

Like your blog)) thank you for sharing

Thank you, christina.red. I love steemit.

Looks like we like the same thing)))) Good luck)

I love parrots. I have a blue one at home.

Have you taught yours to speak?

Yes

The post is very interesting. I think this bird is dark blue color, usually have a partner for life. They are paired not only for breeding purposes, but also share food with a partner and enjoy life together. In the breeding season, female macaws incubate eggs while the males search for food and bring it to their nests. In its habitat, this bird can live until the age of 60 years.

I like that bird. Really sweet. I am interested to have it. Is keeping it hard? And where did you get it?

We have some local pet stores selling them in my country. I would not buy a baby as they are hard to raise.

Thank you turpsy. I love Indigo

The Macaw is beautiful. I think this is the same bird that featured in Rio movies, right?

Great article and a lovely parrot.. Cheers for the well spent efforts friend

Thanks for this beautiful parrot, I love them, and indigo is definitely my color. Thanks for putting it together in this post. Parrots are beautiful creatures, full of joy, if you can, please your daughter with it, even with smaller one than this :)

Great post! love to follow you! follow me back if you like my posts :)

Beautiful. In my country is named Guacamayo. i love Guacamayos. upvote and following.

Little cute friend:)

Gorgeous pictures of a lovely parrot, along with an excellent, in-depth explanation of the color "indigo". It's interesting that this color, along with others in the blue/purple spectrum are often mistaken, something about the human eye being unable to correctly identify based on perception. I find it fascinating and is one of my favourite colors. Great post!

Thank you artsyalina. I got some information about the waves and how light reflects but will have to study this in depth before sharing my findings.

Great post and beautiful bird! My family used to have a Moluccan Cockatoo and he was very handsome but no one ever tells you how hard it is to have a bird as a pet. For instance, out of anxiety he would reduce wooden door frames into splinters in a matter of hours...

Oh wow, this one seems a bit crazy. You have a lot of cleaning to do and always have to take them on holiday or find a sitter which can at times be problematic.

Beautiful Macaw. I saw great documentary on these birds a few years ago. It was interesting to learn about there tribes or flocks. A very intelligent and social bird.

Thank you for your comment investmenthunt. They are magnificent birds.

This is very informative. Indeed I had a different interpretation of indigo in my color challenge.

Mine might be wrong wandergirl, it is difficult to say. I feel it must be a blue with a hint of purple.

I had a difficulty judging which was more dominant, blue or purple. 😊

I want photography this bird :)

There's more here then just nice pictures . That also but there's lots more .

@cherryblossom-sa: yes, indigo is one of those what exactly is it colors. I had to look it up myself. I did not even find anything indigo for the ColorChallenge. Nice photos. Very beautiful bird.

Great shots of the birds!

You chose the right indigo color. I understand your daughter, the parrot is beautiful and I know they are very sociable birds.

Sangat mengagumkan ... Unfortunately I've never photographed the birds.. Saya juga suka memotret alam karena sesuai dengan daerah dimana saya tinggal ... Inilah salah satu contohnya:
