This plant belongs to the family Xanthorrhoeaceae and not the family of lilies, Liliaceae, It is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows from tubers. It does not require winter protection. It has elongated leaves of up to 90 cm.

The flowers are orange-lighted to red, with a lighter medial stripe. They bloom from the beginning of the spring to the end of the autumn, more on a stem, each flower opening independently for one day, successively followed by another and another.
