ColorChallenge - Wednesday Yellow - Bright Yellow Beach Glass - Macro Photography

in colorchallenge •  7 years ago

Last week, I had a lot of fun participating in @kalemandra's photography #colorchallenge using one of my favorite subjects for macro photography: Beach glass my wife and I have found while walking around on our local beaches, in the course of the past 10 years.

I was looking through some of my glass found earlier this year, and these pieces really stood out as YELLOW!

For Wednesday's entry, I shot a closeup of them-- even though these pieces are actually quite small (about 1/2" or 12-13mm) they come across as much larger and seem to remind a lot of people of wine gum candies.

Some beach combers may be aware that yellow is an extremely rare color to find when it comes to beach glass-- it was not used for commercial glass, so most pieces come from things like automotive turn signals (back when they were made of glass!), the glass lenses on road works lamps, and the like.

Camera used: Fuji Finepix HS20 EXR, macro setting, 100mm equivalent; shot in natural daylight.

I also suggest checking out the supporting @colorchallenge page! There, you will also find explanatory posts about the challenge at more length, as well as a number of resteems of entries.

How about YOU? Are you a beach comber? Have you ever found bright yellow sea glass while visiting the sea side? If yes, did you wonder where it came from? Leave a comment!

Beach glass? What are those?

Beach glass is what you get when broken glass falls in the ocean (think of glass freshly broken, very sharp and dangerous) and then is tumbled about by waves, sand and rocks for maybe 20-50 years... at which time all the sharp edges have been polished like it was in a rock tumbler, the the glass now looks like the surface almost has a sugary coating.

Another great macro shot. That's a solid collection of yellow glass with a full range of opacity. Nice!

Looks like you have the whole spectrum in the @colorchallenge covered now.

Thank you! It just added another layer to the challenge to do the different colors with one specific subject.

Yes sir, and it was a great series.

Beautiful. I've never seen yellow beach glass.

Thank you! Yes, it's quite rare... if you consider how little you see yellow glass in everyday commercial usage, and it gives you a similar impression of how little of it might become ocean garbage, which turns into beach glass.

Beach glass? This is amazing! I wish I were there to collect some pieces!

Most of the time, people only find clear, green and brown... think of the colors of most glass bottles and containers. The "exotic" colors can be quite rare.

Beautiful my friend Chelsea loves finding sea glass in Duluth, Minnesota.

It can be very pretty-- not surprised many people make jewelry with it.

Intriguing!

A good word for it! It was just something I started as a little on the beach, when I noticed there were "small blue stones" in the sand. My father then taught me it was "beach glass," and explained how it came to exist. I have been a beach comber ever since.

Yeah I know about them, it's a beautiful phenomenon. I was never lucky enough to find some haha, so i love you sharing it with us

wonderful!

Thank you!

Beautiful. I love that over time (and not too much time), garbage is transformed into treasure.
It is wonderful to find a steemer with great content, that I have somehow missed before.
Following and looking forward to more.
By the way, I was drawn across to your posts from a comment on another persons post.
Thoughtful, relevant comments are the best way to gain the right following.
I have seen a lot of follow me, follow you lately. I hope this trend passes. I just read your dumbing down post too.
I have a driven, thoughtful teenager in a school that encourages creative thinking. I think there is hope, it is residing in subculture to a degree at the moment. Steemit has defied my impression of social media over the past year. We have been plunged into the digital age, but I have hope that the next generation will use it to it's potential.
Thank you for taking time to bring us great quality posts.

I never even knew yellow beach glass was a thing. Soooo pretty!
