These look like Rohas poppies and are not opium poppies. There would be no pain relief effect from these guys. Rohas do contain a very small amount of narcotic opium, I don't believe it is a usable amount. Even the seeds from the opium poppy don't contain opium however opium can drip on the seeds if the seed pod is damaged. The poppy seeds in the grocery store are opium poppy seeds that come from the legal opium poppy growing countries such as Australia and India . If you grow these seeds you have opium poppies. Many ornamental poppies you can get seeds for are opium poppies such as the Pink Peony type of poppies you may see walking down your street in peoples gardens. I don't suggest you collect your own opium unless you know the risks legal and medical. Many people have overdosed and died from using poppies in ignorance. They are very potent in their natural state. Form the pictures you can see the crown is attached to the seed pod and the plant is fairly hairy , this is not the case with opium poppies. Opium poppies have mostly smooth surface with few hairs and lettuces like leaves. The crown on an opium poppy is lifted away from the seed pod and can point out at 90 deg and can also point up when mature.
Poppies are very beautiful both the non opium type and the opium type and the opium type are a powerful medicinal plant which should be legal for anybody to grow for their own pain relieving purposes . Thank you for your post ... poppies are a passion.
