Color Challenge Saturday IndigosteemCreated with Sketch.

I've no idea what this butterfly or plant is, but I thought I'd have a go finding out masking my ignorance as part of an arty Colo(u)r challenge. The butterfly was huge, never seen anything like it in Ireland, but perhaps I haven't been looking hard enough and they are everywhere. I think I've discovered the most viable 21 century biomass plant there is. This indigo coloured plant thing sits in the corner of my garden and needs to be hacked down

several times every year as if I turn my back on it for 20 minutes or more it sprouts up another foot. I reckon I dispose of more kgs of this plant every year than all my grass cutting combined. So any experts in either field out there, feel free to chip in.

I found it. It's a European peacock. See now you've learned something.

You are right. I just looked it up in wikipedia. We have a butterfly conservatory not very far from here that i haven't been to in years but i remember the guide explaining the mating rituals of butterflies especially the monarch. Very fascinating stuff.

The plant is called Buddleia, or commonly 'the butterfly bush' :)

Ah, I've heard of Buddleia before, I just didn't know I owned one. Lol the butterfly bush. How appropriate.

yeah the light purple ones grow everywhere like weeds in cracks in walls and stony ground, but you can buy some really stunning coloured buddlea's that the butterflys go crazy for like catnip :)

I was actually wondering if it was a weed, as I have to hack it down to size over and over again.

Is it a butterfly or a moth? Kinda scary looking and beautiful at the same time.

I'm no expert, but it was out during the day and was really colorful, more so than the picture would suggest. The 'eyes' on the wings were a kind of an irridescent purply color. All to me says butterfly. It has got a fat furry body though, which maybe suggests moth, but perhaps it's just got some weight issues, which we should be careful not to be too judgemental about...

I haven't seen very many butterflies here in the U.S. lately. It's a shame because they are one of the few insects that are a joy to look at. Even the slightly obese ones...... lol

Same here, I remember several varieties as a child, red admiral and cabbage whites, but see very few of either now.

Very beautiful picture you are a talented man i´m glad that I follow you))

Flattery will get you everywhere...
