The oldest species of tree in the world.
This tree is planted next to our pond in the back garden.
I bought Michelle the tree for our 15th Anniversary so it is around 20 years old now.
It is a very special type of tree called a Ginkgo Biloba or the Maidenhair Tree, and comes from China.
It is the only type left of it's species still in existence, and dates back over 270 million years.
This one is planted quite close to the house but due to it growing very slowly it will probably out-live the house. They are known to live 1500 years and grow to 50m high. Ours at 20 years old is around 1.5m high.
Beautiful tree It is a unique tree in the world, without living relatives and I understand that it is medicinal

Some believe they have properties that can help with Alzheimer's disease.
We might in time learn a great deal about long life. They have 3x more DNA that humans and are very hardy. 6 trees lived through the Hiroshima atomic bombs and are still living. They were just about the only living things to survive at the 1km distance.

What I loved the most of this post, it's the story. How beautiful that you gave this tree to her 20 years ago and now it's the only type left of it's species, this makes it even more special!
