To the drone of cicadas on a scorching summer day, she draped herself in orange so she could hide among the day lilies. When the sun bent down to kiss the horizon, she ran to get a kiss, too. Mother Moon watched over her as she slept. In the morning, she awoke in a field among the ripening pumpkins. She drank some dew, then flew up into the trees to dance with the leaves. They loved her orange so much that they began to dress themselves in earthy colors, too, for the oncoming Harvest Moon Ball. They turned and pirouetted, dipped and curtsied, serenaded by crickets, caressed by the wind, until the night melded into eternity.

2 things stick out, first is the harvest moon! (which passed not too long ago!)
second is cicadas!!!! How lucky/unfortunate to hear the drone of cicadas, don't these things come around once every 20 or so years?
Otherwise, I like the shortness of the writing. I had to read it twice, perhaps you can space it out so we can read at the same tempo you intended it to be read. I think it would help readers like me (who see a block of words and forget to take a breathe between sentences!).

There are actually several species of cicadas; the ones we have here come out every year. But, yes, there are other species that appear only one year out of many. I can't imagine a summer day without the sound of the ones we have!
I appreciate your suggestion on the spacing of the writing, and perhaps this would be better as a poem rather than prose. I will seriously consider that for other short works! Thank you!

Very vivid descriptions in this write. Maybe it is the color and the photo used, but the words reminded me of the imagery from a beautiful cinematic film called "Hero." The use of colors in that film with movement really set the mood for each scene.

Oooh. I can only imagine how wonderful the whole dress looks. I love the two colors playing together, the orange and pink. The bottom of the dress already intrigues me as it seems like my kind of piece. Love the writing, a very nice touch

That's actually an orange skirt that I got at a thrift store! I love the cheery, orange color (which is slightly muted, the way I processed the photo). It's one of my favorite skirts! 😊
