I took this photo of a super shallow seasonal pond at over 13000' in the colorado mountains on taylor pass near Aspen.
When very powerful solar events happen sometimes very faint auroras can be seen in colorado. These are only visible to a camera with a long exposure and usually only show up as purple colored lights in the sky. The yellow lights on the horizon are coming from Denver CO.
It's so fun running around trying to get photos of a phenomenon that can only be seen with a camera. You have to wait 25 seconds and sometimes the purple auroras are visible and sometimes the photo is just a normal night shot.
no matter how far south you are, always try to see if your camera can see the northern lights during a strong solar storm. Put your camera on a tripod or steady surface and expose for 30 seconds at high iso pointing north.

Wow, this is a mesmerizing photo! I moved to Denver about a year ago and have yet to visit Aspen but it's on the list. Cool post @tmophoto ;D
