The asceticism is a lifestyle that seeks the moral and spiritual improvement of man, but Paul explains to us that in the Christian faith there is no greater asceticism than a life full of mercy (compassion, gentleness, kindness) towards our neighbor, as Jesus explains in the parables of the good samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) and the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32).
The Kingdom of God is to live the spiritual gifts, and the gifts increase when they are lived, like the money put to interest in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30). We can describe the Kingdom of God as that bare tree that when spring comes, sprouts, fills with leaves, and bears fruit ( the prophet Isaiah compares the house of Israel to a vineyard, Isaiah 5:1-7). Spiritual gifts purify us, they are gradual, progressive and bear fruit when they are lived.
The kingdom of God is the culture of the excellence: "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect", Matthew 5:48.
That is why Paul warns us in his letter to the Colossians about false asceticism based on human rules: "don't eat this", "don't drink that"; with that false religiosity that behind appearances seeks to satisfy the desires of the flesh, such as vanity and the obtaining of wealth:
"Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: ´Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!´? These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.", Colossians 2:20-23.
