Juliank photo contest: Thursday - colourfulphotography. Vendors of Tenerife.

To be honest i was i little bit surprised on a business side in Tenerife. Especially shops and vendors. They have an interesting concept of licencing businesses meaning that you must have a permit to sell specific items in specific shops.

If you want to open a barber shop for example you have to find premises that already have barber shop licence and is willing to sell it (the license). After that you just pay rent to the owner of real estate. If you want to open a coffee shop, you can't just rent the premises and open a coffee shop there, unless there was a coffee shop there before. I understand logic from the perspective of differentiation and control but it goes against the logic of free market. Buit is seems to be somewhat working for Tenerife, well that many tourists have to spend their money somewhere.

Like in this shot i took in Los Cristianos. I might imagine a situation when somebody will buy that rubber duck on top, as it may fall on their heads, but how do you sell those plasctic buckets at the bottom. And merchandise selection from a business perspective does not go with any logic. But hey, shop is still open and operating, so no loss there i believe and there is some special Spanish logic in all of this.

Don't think logic translates into Spanish. Here's another one for you. If a bar puts up a special chalk board, they have to get permission. And, this is the best bit, you have to get permission to change it. So it's not really a special, its a menu lol. So basically it never changes.😎

That's a good one, but a board like that may never change as far as my love for the beer goes lol

I think we have a big problem in society, because we already have too much to ask what we can do.

But it looks cool street... I must go there :)

You should definitely go if you have a chance i have enjoyed my stay a lot. And i could not agree more. Prohibitions, constraints, restrictions, obstructions... Too much for my liking.

You are welcome :)

It seems like and antiquated system.. Nice colors on your pic, miss my time in the south of Europe :)

It does! But it works! Question is could it work better though :)

i guess they're trying to keep diversity in what the shops are selling. Ive been to many holiday spots where all the shops sell the same items even if they are just next to each other.

Nope no diversity in the Canaries. You still get rows of shops selling the same tat. It's purely about control and the local government making money from trading licences. Pubs and restaurants have to put up an orange sign, which they have to buy, saying what they are. Ie. CB cafe bar, B bar, BR bar restaurant, etc. Figure that one out. 😎😎

oh thats just harsh on the people trying to run a business then, maybe because its a small government they feel like they can get away with it well they are getting away with it.

Ha ha yep they sure do. You need paperwork for everything down here. Its a great life but to feel free you need to abide by all the rules😎😎

Hello, it really does not look logical in those stores, but I do not know if people adapt to them, or vice versa, because I visited many that follow that same style, I also imagine that logic, to say something Los Cristianos is a tourist area and imagine that they have everything a bit to provide good service and not waste the opportunity to sell some object. I also lived in Aruba, stores that you enter and you get lost among so many objects, you end up seeing them all the same, I am struck by a very neat store, where the colors prevail, and you can traverse them peacefully, but that's the way they are and they fulfill their main purpose, sell @ bescouted

This is the first time I have ever heard of this kind of concept of having a license for opening a shop Oakland any kind! I just wonder what took place when the first shop if each kind opened at the beginning! Suppose there was never a dentist clinic before, how would a recently arrived dentist managed to have his practice open there?

Here it is free for all, so there may be five salons in one short street!

Apparently there was no restrictions in the beginning?

So, the first person who invented the license system really wanted to make some money for his retirement!

Aha...this one has lots of colourful things.

nice !
