Are secondhand bookshops a thing of the past?

Hi Stemians. My entry for today's colourful photography is "Are secondhand books shops a thing of the past?"

I can't help wondering with our super hi tech world, if bookshops are becoming a thing of the past? I used to love to spend a couple of hours a week in a second hand bookshop, attracted by the colourful displays and exciting titles, I could spend hours browsing, looking for something perfect to read.

The more crammed the books were, the more exciting it was to browse. I did this for any years until my local second hand bookshop said the were closing there doors. Shock of all horrors, Why I asked? Only to be told the people weren't coming in as much anymore. A lot had bought kindles and never to be seen again, the younger generation were more interested in their smart phones and not reading as much, then of course television, video streaming, facebook and so many other things to take up a young persons mind.

The bookshop owner told me he tried to diversify, selling, cold drinks, sweets, ice cream, stationery, mobile phone top ups, anything to make it pay but sadly it wasn't enough and the old bookshop owner had to close his doors.
I am wondering if you had a secondhand bookshop in your area, that you used to visit, buy or even swap books at, in your home town, that has shut it's doors?
