I was extremely fortunate to have expierenced the awe-imspiring works of Dale Chihuly both times he was featured at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. The first time was in 2004 and I was up visiting my now wife while we were dating. I had read about Chihuly over the years and seen examples of his work in books and on the internet, but absolutely nothing could have prepared me for the religious experience of standing before his sculptures in real life! In 2004, we were only able to attend during daylight hours and I was extremely excited when I learned the exhibition in 2016 was going to have day and night sequences.

As if seeing his sculptures during the day were not magical enough, I just do not possess the vocabulary to describe the ecstasy of re-living the experience at night. It was truly otherworldly. It felt as if you were transported to a surreal time and place where physics and natural law ceased to exist. It gave me hope in the human race...it truly, deeply moved me.

I literally would have been content spending the entire night under the starts with these sculptures and my pictures pale in comparison to the majesty of the actual works. I will always cherish the two opportunities I was afforded to witness the genius of this master glass blower and I hope it will return close my area at least once more before I die. If you get the chance to experience this first-hand, please do not pass it up.
