The partly flooded arena was not much impediment to the elephant, who is slow moving anyways and plenty tall. The shark had nothing to knaw on but the elephant's legs. Victory for the elephant was as simple as waiting for an opportunity to gore the shark through the gills with one of its tusks, then follow the blood trail through the water and stomp on the wounded shark.

In the end, intelligence got the human very far. It was a tremendous advantage against creatures of a similar size. But when it comes to a brutal all-out fight to the death in a state of nature, size matters. The sheer mass of the elephant gave it attack power and durability that won the day.
