Never mess with a person who knows his or her rights, or they think they do. Some people have made it a habit of suing over the slightest provocation, and what makes them standout is the reason behind them doing so. Today we honour some outstanding members of society who decided to exploit their right to legal services by filling some of the dumbest lawsuits in history.
I Will Sue You For Using My Powers cause I am ‘God’
This might as well be the dumbest lawsuit of all time. David Copperfield and David Blaine were sued by Christopher Roller who demanded that the two magicians reveal their secret magic tricks to him. Now the reason why he did this is what qualifies him to top this list. Roller claimed that he is God and that the powers to perform magic tricks belong to him, therefore, the two magicians are stealing his powers. He also demanded to receive a tithe from the two magicians for life.
Why Are They Not Coming to Life?
Be careful what your advert says because some people will take your word for it. This is exactly what happened to Anheuser-Busch, a brewery in the United States. Richard Overton, a resident of Michigan, sued them for wrongful advertising and demanded that they pay him at least $10,000. The reason behind this lawsuit is the brewery ran a series of ads that portrayed two beautiful women coming to life in front of two truck drivers who were drinking their beer. Overton bought and drunk a case of the beer hoping to see two beautiful women appear only for it not to happen. He, therefore, sued the company for wrongful advertising. The court dismissed the suit and Overton remained single and broke.
Someone Looks Like You? Sue Them!
Be careful who you look alike, because if it is someone who is crazy enough, you might end up paying him or her. If you think this is a lie, then go ask Michael Jordan. Allen Heckard sued Michael Jordan for looking like him and using his likeness. In the lawsuit, Allen claimed that Jordan defaced him, cause him permanent injury, emotional pain, and suffering for the years he has lived looking like him. He wanted the court to order Jordan to pay him $416 million and Nike the same amount too, for making Michael Jordan a world-wide known name. The lawsuit, however, was dropped before its first hearing because Nike’s lawyer explained to Allen how he would be destroyed both emotionally and financially if he were to continue with the suit.
