Recently I was fortunate enough to exhibit at the New York Comic Con, and plenty of folks came out and cosplayed, looking like a million bucks. While at the cons I attend, I love snapping pics of the hard work and dedication that these fantastic people put into their cosplay. I actually did a couple of segments already...part 1 of this which can be seen here. https://steemit.com/comics/@blewitt/new-york-comic-con-2018-cosplay-pics-part-1

Hey, @blewitt.

I've never been to a comic con before, but I've seen plenty of pictures. Obviously people dress up with the intent of having their picture taken. That's amazing, especially in this day and age, and particularly in New York.

There seemed to be a few more older cos players than I'm used to seeing. I don't know if that's because those who have posted pictures I've seen don't show those folks as much or what, but it can be rather jarring to see someone who looks like they are in their mid-40s dressing up in a costume. :)

I guess these things are more for the young at heart, rather than acting your age. Otherwise, it would be all young people.

Some of these people, though, didn't really do much, right? Like the guy with the Batman mask. Especially since the girl with him was all decked out. :)

And then the guy with the leopard pajamas? I'm sure I'm missing out on some cool character there but I have no idea who he's supposed to be. I image that's part of the fun. Seeing how outrageous people can be.

I was also surprised that I recognized quite a few of the characters, even though some of them are best known among their readership than they would be mainstream.

It was good to see Captain America well represented. Sometimes, that's the 30 to 40 year old guy rocking it, but they're not so super soldier anymore. :)

This must have been a great time. Anything that stood out to you the most about the con? Any costumes or even cos players you thought were the best?

Hey brother!

I’ve been attending the big shows...especially San Diego annually since 2003. The one thing I’ve noticed in this timeframe is the cons are now filled with a wider audience. It’s almost like this stuff became more socially acceptable.

With the mainstream appeal of the big blockbuster films and shows, I think a whole new group of people got introduced and involved.

We see tons of folks of all ages. I love seeing parents and their kids dress up or a couple in their 50’s. It’s empowering and most of the time they look fantastic.

They love being stopped (which would drive me nuts...hence why I wouldn’t personally do it) and having photos taken. Most are very accommodating. Once in a while you get an asshole who is in a killer costume that gets annoyed or shitty when asked for a photo. I always say never mind and walk away when they give me shit. I get it, it’s definitely gotta be super annoying getting stoped every 4 steps ya take but...you came to a comic con filled with 150 thousand people dressed like a smoking hot Poison Ivy. Of course you are going to be stopped. Lol

As for my favorite at this show? Didn’t really have anything that blew me away but I do have tons from past cons. Maybe I’ll put a post together of my favorites. A best of. Lol. Stay tuned!!!

I've been going to conventions (well, one in particular anyway) since I was 24. I'm 43 now so it doesn't surprise me at all that you see older people in costume these days. I typically wear steampunk attire myself...

amazing

Sure is! These folks are awesome!!

So happy

These are some of the best yet.

Right?!? Who does not enjoy some Powered Toast Man?!?

What a great event! I can't even pick my favorite.. oh, actually, I can.. that guy in the big cat print :)

ruby.jpg

That is supposed to be Ruby Rhod from the film The Fifth Element. Played by Chris Tucker. Ever see it!

Got it!! Yes, I saw the movie but didn't connect it with that guy :D Thank you for the picture!

lol. No worries. It initially took me a second as well.

Wow, people sure take this stuff seriously, don't they?! I've been to one in Vancouver before and it was so much fun to see it all in person, even though it's more of a spectator sport for me ;)

Yeah some folks work on their costumes all year. San Diego Comic Con has a big contest and masquerade giving away thousands. Pretty cool to see.

How fun! Such great costumes! Everyone looks like they're having a grand time.

Yeah cons can be exhausting but fun. I give the folks dressing up tons of credit. Navigating through the isles dressed normal is a challenge let alone having a clunky costume you are lugging around.
