Does Cerberus still carry the slavish fan devotion it had in the 90's? I never read the book myself, but at the time it seemed there was no such thing as a casual fan of Cerberus--you either were orally attached to Dave Sim's genitals for the rest of your life, after which you would be replaced by your eldest child, or you just didn't really care.

Was this just in my neck of the woods, or was it ubiquitous to the rest of the world?

My friends and family believed in superhero comics only so I actually never knew much of Cerebus other than random pictures in Wizard and I remember there was his appearance in an earlier Spawn issue too. I wish I could remember what got me to try indie books, because once I went down that path, never looked back, changed the way I approached comics as a whole because indie books just cause you to really care about specific artists and writers way more than characters and companies.

The way you describe though sounds like how it probably goes down for people into non-popular things, when you realize you are into something so awesome and the world isn't you sometimes find yourself becoming a self starting solo street team member for the things you fancy. Or at least I find myself like that... Oh god, I am the person you are describing I think lol.

I've nothing against Dave Sims or the comic, I should add, and I've followed a great number of indie books myself through the years. But holy cow, some of the talk I'd hear in the shops would have made you think Sims was the messiah, the aardvark was his prophet, and Cerberus the holy scriptures. The fan-wank surrounding this guy was unreal and unrivaled by any other creator. Not even McFarlane managed to hit this level of worship. :)

You know, for his era, I wonder if he was one of the first really large created owned thing and so got a lot of respect that way. Also being present around the Ninja Turtles hey day, was he someone who "kept it real" and didn't mass produce toys of his super cute animal like character, no doubt he had to have been approached in that time period to do so (I am curious about this b.s. theory I just made up lol).

BS or not, it makes an awful lot of sense. Cerberus has a very TMNT-style vibe and as far as I know Sims never "sold out", whatever that means. :)

Never seen this book but I do love the character. Interesting panel layout in this one right? Cool book!

Looks like The Thing has quit Marvel! 😆😂🤣
