Rocket Reappears

It has been a long time since I read an issue of Guardians Of The Galaxy. As with other comic series, I am trying to catch up due to my love for the movies. Therefore, I was very much surprised to see the members in this issue listed as Star-Lord, Phyla-Vell, Moondragon, Groot, Beta Ray Bill and Gamora. The love story seems to be picking up between Peter Quill and Gamora in the comic book series.

The issue I decided to reintroduce myself to this space group was #7, or Legacy # 157, which is the number that the hardcore fan is probably going by. Donny Cates, who has done excellent work with Venom, wrote this story. Joining him was Cory Smith (artist), David Curiel (colorist) and VC's Cory Petit (letterer).

It seems that Nova Corps had some fatal issues when confronting what they thought were The Universal Church Of Truth. Quill's father sends a video message warning the Guardians of the galactic problem. Of course, J'son feels that he is not going to have the time to makeup with his son for being a bad father. Quill quickly prepares the Starship Bowie , which I am sure that he named from one of his mixed tapes that his mother had given him, for battle. He instructs Groot and Moondragon to stay behind. While confronting this version of The Universal Church Of Truth, the Guardians are restrained and then told to have faith.

Meanwhile, Groot and Moondragon lose communication with the team. Then, coming out from behind a curtain is a very sickly looking Rocket who wants to become involved. This was set up as if it was supposed to be a surprise, however, Rocket's image on the cover sort of took away from what could have been a very pivotal moment in the story. Either way, this story was still very well done and just enough to get me back into reading the Guardians future stories, as well as backtracking on the past issues.
