"Eat to the Beat Comics #626" by Richard F. Yates

I love nonsense, and comics, with their combination of text, images, and juxtaposition, are a perfect vehicle for expressing absurdity and nonsense.

Eat to the Beat, for those who don't know, was a 1979 album by the band, Blondie, which gave us two nearly perfect singles, "Dreaming" and "Atomic." This album, aside from my enjoying the rhythm and rhyme of the title, has nothing else to do with my comic.

I think my whole point with this piece is expressing frustration with the way that garbage (news) angers and divides people now-a-days. I've spent way too much time lately arguing with friends of mine, online, who have different political opinions than I do, and this isn't just a waste of energy and time (nobody's minds were changed during my recent, aggressive, back and forth exchanges), but the process further divided me from a couple of my friends. (And, as a shut-in who spends most of his spare time writing or drawing, I can't really afford to lose very many of the few friends that I have!)

I'm conflicted about the whole thing---and that frustration and suspicion that the whole thing is pointless, coupled with my strong desire to stand up for what I believe in and call out bullshit when I see it, produced this comic! Two figues arguing and posturing over what ultimately amounts to nonsense.

That's it. My process, my motivation, my intention. (Now you get to decide how much of what I just said is true.)
