I’m adding this one to my weekly published articles; this weekly update will feature books that I’m currently “hunting” for, and will give an updated, real-time price for anyone interested in similar books. Two things made me realize I should probably do this type of piece, weekly, this past weekend. They include:
a) My collection, as previously mentioned, is ultimately meant to be passed on to my daughter in the future, so if she can read this in the future, she may find some entertainment value (especially if she doesn’t hate me then)
b) I need to focus
Part A is kind of fun thought, especially considering she’s only 2 right now. When she reads this string of articles when she’s older, she will be able to see how/when/why I picked up the books I did for her. Yes, it’s a romantic thought; probably not realistic, but whatever, I’m a dreamer.
Yet part B is even more important…I know this as I was cruising eBay this past weekend, and putting WAY TOO MANY BIDS on MULTIPLE comics. Then I started chasing comics past my price points when outbid, and well…you probably know how that goes. So let’s rein it back in already. Do I really need to chase down Batman Beyond Unlimited 18 for over $20 USD? No, I don’t!
I like the idea of comic books for my daughter’s future because I feel as if it might be a bond between the two of us. And also, more speculatively, when paper is no longer used as a publishing medium, hard copies of comic books may have even more value in 20-30 years (again, I admit I’m a dreamer, so I could very well be wrong). Collectors, myself included, will have paper copies of key events and characters that should, in theory, be the modern day version of Greek and Roman mythologies. These characters and their first appearances will continue to pop up in relevance for the next 100 years in creation of myth and story. People love stories and mythologies; the mythological basis of the Dark Knight is really no different than that of Achilles, and likely will continue to fascinate the human brain for the next few centuries.
Or they might be like my 1980’s baseball card collection, and be worthless. I’m going to take a gamble, however, and say “they should have some value.” As much as I thought that Dwight Gooden rookie card would continue to store value since 1986, in retrospect, I should have been spending all that money on Detective Comics printed at that time…or the Amazing Spider-Man. Again, none of this is true financial advice, it’s just my gut instincts.
With all of that said, I’m using my Return to Comic Book Week articles as a basis for this list. This way I can attempt to catch something that might hold value in the short term time frame. Ok? Here we go!
Captain Marvel 8 3rd Print
This one is selling at $14.50 USD / copy.
Ghost Spider 2 Peach Momoko Variant
Lots of variance with this one yet; a high sale of $60 USD with a low sale of $37 USD puts the mean price in the $48 USD range.
Marvel Action Captain Marvel 2 Sara Pirtre-Durocher
Currently holding a $10 USD mean price.
Captain Marvel 8 A Cover (non-blood splat logo)
This one...the first appearance of Star. I really need to bite the bullet and just get this for her. Currently trending at $18 USD/ copy.
Silver Surfer 2 Marco Martin 1:25 Variant
I love the look of this one, but I'm on the fence. I might drop it off the list next week. This is getting $38 USD currently.
Captain Marvel 8 Sean Izaakse 1:25 Variant #
Wow, did I miss out on this one! I knew it was a winner from the get go, but didn't want to pay $30 USD for it. Now it's trending at $115 USD; nice work, accountant!
Let me know what you think, and what I should add to this list for my daughter. The scope is really since July, so I'm sure I missed a few in between. Please drop a line with any thoughts! Thanks again for reading!
