I have a tendency to enjoy a variety of hobbies, and can never seem to juggle them all considering I have a pesky full time job, and you know... a wife and 3 kids.... ANYWAYS... the hobbies that has taken dominance as of late have been comic focused ones, specifically reading full stories, and collecting/customizing action figures. Some of you guys probably saw my Dlive post from earlier, where I worked on my trex custom and it was a lot of fun not without its hiccups of course.
ON TO THE POST TOPIC!
Finished
I was able to finish this comic event just last night, and boy was I impressed. I am not typically a huge DC fan, but I will always have a place in my heart for Batman.
The Dark Knight Returns, has a very dark tone and is one of Frank Millers quintessential books. In the book Batman has been "retired" for 10 years, and finally snaps after seeing certain villains get out of jail/mental institutions. This story really set the bar for Christopher Nolan's trilogy, and for Batman in general. In this book Batman does some crazy stuff ...
lets just say this defeats the whole "batman doesn't kill" argument
I was extremely impressed with the art, almost as impressed as I was with the story! It seriously had me captivated. I even enjoyed the cameo from my least favorite superhero Superman.
I probably enjoyed it because he almost dies twiceHonestly this comic for me was a solid 10/10, it legit gave me chills, and had me hooked. So far the only other comic run I have enjoyed more is the Old Man Logan story line.Apparently I have a thing for old superheroes
Reading
Marvel 1602 is a spin-off/"What if" type comic where we have a bunch of the characters we love... but set in the past, hundreds of years ago. Do you see Daredevil on the cover? How about Nick Fury?
This has been a pretty fun read so far, it is cool seeing how they adapt these well known and loved characters to a totally different timeline. The part that has been the most fun so far is trying to guess who the characters are before their "identity" is revealed to the reader. I haven't gotten too far into this book yet, but it has been enjoyable, and I have volume 2 waiting for me to read when I am done with this one.
Purchased
I did a little bit of comic hunting today as I was out and about and it is hard sometimes for me to know what to get as I am very new to the scene, but I have been keeping my eye out for some of the bigger comic "events". Probably the most relevant comic event for the average fan is Infinity Gauntlet/Infinity War, I found this beauty at a used book store, the trade paperback collection of "Aftermath" a run of comics that bridges the gap from the Infinity Gauntlet run to Infinity War (These are two different events in comics, and it looks as if they are calling it the same thing in the MCU so far)
Flipping through the pages, it looks like the main characters will be Adam Warlock, and the Silver Surfer. I love cosmic comics, and am super stoked to learn more about these two characters. Silver Surfer especially, I don't really know why I love the character so much, but I have always been drawn to him.
Well thanks for getting to this point, reading my silly post. The person who can tell me what their favorite comic event is and why can have my digital copy of Logan sent via steemchat or discord.
I look back with amusement now, knowing that Dark Knight Returns was one of the first comics I read when I started collecting. I was only 8 or 9, so it was quite mature for me! Most of the references to the Batman mythology, the political and social commentary, a lot went right over my head. But it left an indelible impression, and set the bar high for all comics!
I read 1602 when it was first coming out on the stands. I don’t remember it clearly, it deserves a revisit!

It's refreshing to see I'm not the only one out here balancing being a parent and being a geek.
I picked up the 1602 comics when they came out and enjoyed the story at the time. I may have to find time to go back and revisit it.
The Dark Knight Returns was my first dive into "adult" themed comics when I was in 7th grade. Blew my mind and my view of Superman has never been the same to this day lol.
Good find with the Infinity Aftermath books.
