Christian spirituality: This is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another. 1 John 3:23

The First Epistle of Saint John was probably a letter addressed to several churches in Asia, such as Antioch, which was one of the largest centers of dissemination of the christian religion. And it was most likely written by the apostle John, the most beloved disciple of the Lord Jesus, because its literary style is very similar to the gospel of John and the Book of Revelation.
In this beautiful epistle, the apostle dedicated himself to combat the teaching of heresy, which was widespread in those times when there was no written gospel, but rather an oral dissemination of the life of Jesus.
And also in this epistle, the apostle put his attention in describing the very essence of Christian spirituality.
The Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's excellencies, is first of all God who becomes the "son of man", that is, the perfections of God who are personified in Christ, Jesus is the personification of eternal life, that is why the apostle with wisdom taught: "The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us" 1 John 1:2.
But then the apostle wrote about something else, about the man who becomes a "son of God", that is, about the man who accepts the new commandment with the purpose of living according to the will of God, a law that does not obligate but invites a new lifestyle in the likeness of Jesus who set the example with his life, death, and resurrection.
For this reason, the apostle John described that new commandment in a very special way with these words: "This is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another" 1 John 3:23.
The apostle John in resume invited the first Christians to accept and live in that light which is an expansion of God's wisdom, but it is in the freedom of men to follow Jesus or not.
