David Hogg, a rather notorious gun control advocate, was "pranked" when a SWAT team showed up to his house after an emergency call from another person. The SWAT team cleared Hogg's home and police are investigating who made the call. Hogg brushed off the "silly prank", but one could interpret the act as an attempted murder as people, such as Andrew Finch, have died from swatting before. If the act were politically motivated, it would be nothing short of terrorism, which is far more serious than any prank.
To be clear, it is possible to disagree with what someone is trying to accomplish and speak out against injustices performed against them. This is the case with David Hogg and my take on him being swatted. Naturally, some people are blaming Kyle Kashuv for the incident, but this seems wildly out of character for Kashuv, whose political message is focused on logic, integrity, and setting aside differences to solve problems. A terroristic "prank" embodies none of those values.
Others blamed Hogg for swatting himself as a publicity stunt based on his reaction. However, seeing that a deep sense of purpose can push nearly anyone through anything, this response isn't entirely implausible. I don't know David Hogg myself, so I don't know if he's holding any repressed trauma back for the sake of his mission. However, given the fact that armed police showed up at his house, it seems very unusual that he doesn't even seem shaken from the incident.
Some think someone from the NRA or a Trump supporter (most likely both) swatted Hogg, but the motivation for this is also wildly unclear. Most NRA/Trump supporters don't like Hogg, but wouldn't support something of this nature. David Hogg himself has the clearest motivation of the three and even that's too murky to go off of with any certainty. In the meantime, I will give all parties involved the benefit of the doubt.
