Questions on the Art of Commenting (How the Hell Do You Guys Comment So Fast?)

Hey ya'll. I just made a comment, so I thought I'd write a whole article while I wait for it to actually post to the site.

I was thinking about the process of commenting, and why even after a year on this site I still find one of the most important aspects of it to be a challenge.

First off, it's clear that there are tools that I'm missing in the fight to keep current with the authors I'm most interested in. At current I use Streemian for auto posting, but it's the only feature of it that I've really explored. Maybe there's something there that could help?

Right now, by the time I get to a post I feel like commenting on it feels like an eon has passed. Hours, if not whole days. Many times it feels like by the time I'm ready to contribute, the conversation is over and everyone has moved on. How in the world does a guy strike while the iron is hot? Is there a tool for this, or do you simply have to resign yourself to checking your feed almost obsessively? In light of the design changes, this makes me think that a way to be notified when certain authors posted or might not be a bad idea.

Or if not that, then something. Commenting is a lot about timing, I'm beginning to realize. But it can be hard to time things when you've got a hundred people posting to your feed (and just about all of us do if you've been on the site longer than a few months).

At any rate, I keep stopping in the middle of this post to attempt commenting elsewhere, so maybe I should just go do that. But seriously, what's the best way to approach commenting on this site?

I just refine my feed to include only sources of content I would want to comment on. I think that what steemit is currently missing is a better filtering system for feed viewing. Wouldn't it be cool if I could see ONLY posts from the last 2 hours that have more than 5 organic (non-bot) comments? Cool right?
Another thing I suggested was bringing back the "active" tab to replace the promoted tab. No one uses that, while many users seek out conversations on topics on the platform. I wish steemit made it easier on us.

Hear, hear! Yeah, I made a comment on a recent @steemitblog post supporting the simple implementation of a smaller posts in the feed to allow for better perusal, but it's clear that that is only a start.

The active tab was a particularly good idea. I wonder why they took it down? Well, I suppose it would take some thinking for it to be abuse-proof. Being able to filter by recent-ness and comments would be an amazing leap forward. Add to that special alerts that you could set up for specific authors, and I think the problem is pretty much totally fixed.

Yup. Know anyone on the team there? :)

Lol. Nope. You?

Nope. My current contributions to the community: delegated to utopian.io and helping the team at minnowbooster define clear guidelines for abuse prevention.
