The Old Dog Asks: Can YOU Succeed On Steemit Simply By Commenting? Meet @eric-boucher

in commenting •  8 years ago  (edited)

Are You New To Steemit? Are You Struggling To Be Seen? Make Meaningful Comments!

That's how many of us started, as commenters. Sure we wrote posts, but to make connections, get our name out there, have our avatar instantly recognized and develop our brand we did lots of commenting!

In the beginning I often made much more through commenting than I did through writing articles and you can do the same! REMEMBER COMMENTS ARE CONTENT AND CAN BE UPVOTED JUST LIKE BLOG POSTS! Good commenting is a skill and it will be rewarded!

Let's Take A Look At A Highly Successful And Much Loved Commenter!

I call him the King of Commenters and The Professional Encourager. Who is he? @eric-boucher

Photo Credit: The Man himself @eric-boucher!

First of all @eric-boucher is a talented photographer and an interesting guy. You should follow him just for that reason. Check out one of his recent articles to see what I mean!

"COMING  DOWN THE MOUNTAIN”, MOUNT ROBSON PROVINCIAL PARK, “BERG LAKE TRAILS”,  BRITISH COLUMBIA., from "A Summer of Adventures, Love and Photographic  Journeys". (Part 10)

The fact is though that @eric-boucher doesn't post articles all that often but what he does do, perhaps better than almost anyone else, is comment!

Why is @eric-boucher so Successful?

  • First of all his comments are kind, appreciative and have a positive tone!
  • He also gives his opinion and often his analysis of the information in the article. He doesn't simply write: "Good article" or "nice post." He engages you, and you find yourself looking forward to his visit!
  • @eric-boucher takes the time to answer questions that an article has posed.
  • He comments a lot! Look at his comment page HERE. There are 20-30 a day!

What Else Can You Learn From This Commenting King?

@eric-boucher is not afraid to upvote his own comment. Not only does that move him up on the page but he gets to pay himself for the comment! And why shouldn't he? He's put a lot of work into Steemit and he brings valuable content to the table! Way to go @eric-boucher!

Please Scroll Through His Comment Page. Click On Some of Them And learn From A Master!

I picked the examples below almost at random and none are older than 8 days! Notice the dollar figures in red!

Have A Look At @eric-boucher's Author Rewards!

As I mentioned @eric-boucher doesn't post a lot of articles so as you scroll down the list you'll see that most of his rewards were earned through commenting! WOW!

@eric-boucher earned about $118.00 last week through commenting!

What About You?

  • Will you check out @eric-boucher?
  • Do you like to receive nice comments?
  • Can you be an active commenter?

I hope that you enjoyed meeting @eric-boucher, the Commenting King and The Professional Encourager!

Until next time,

LOL!!! Here's both tears of gratitude and laughing giggles... You have touched my heart deeply to speak in such terms and the kindness can only be returned from this end.

As I write this, I see that there are many who do appreciate your article as well (the article is now worth $224.31, and, maybe it is only my positively biased opinion, but it feels well deserved as it obeys the laws of our land: The Steemit platform population and the technology involve a few important demands. The writing style is easily approachable, positive, creative, open-minded and fun and reach out to the reader as well, as always! ;) Your article isn't too loaded with pictures or videos, which slows down the uploading of the content, especially on iPADs and iPHONEs and tablets of all sorts. You keep it short enough, yet filled with quality and interesting approachable content.

Reading your post brought to my attention facts about me that I wasn't absolutely unaware of, I love it! For example, I didn't know about my author rewards until you pointed it out to me. I have not looked at it in ages! Telling me that I had earned $118.00 last week alone gladly surprised me.

I also want to thank you for the choice of picture representing me as it does feel like me on so many levels. Further more, it is part of an experience related in the article you give the link to that will never leave my mind and my heart as being one of the most beautiful experience in my life. To top it all, the series or article relating to this trip in the Canadian Rockies is in itself a dream come true for which I had the opportunity and good fortune to share with you all because of the existence of Stemit.com and the person who pointed its existence to me: @onceuponatime!

All for one and one for all! Keep on thriving, Steem on, may the smiles be easy and namaste :)

Note: With the latest hard fork my program is now changing. My upvotes now have much more power and so all commenters on my posts will be rewarded with an upvote! The simple ones with something and the ones that I really like with a lot higher percentage!

Thanks a bunch for the BONE! This posting is #4600!!! Namaste ;)

I purposely waited for you to show up to post my first comment here! I'm always happy and up built by your visit and I see that many feel the same. Now it's time to put you at the top of the page as you deserve since this article is in your honor!

I'm definitely feeling it, thank you so very much... I'm at a lack of words. Namaste :) (((HUG)))

STEEMIANS ARE THE BEST. I also reply so much more often than I post. Good model for people like me who like to comment and dont always have the time to sit down and write a long post, which I also have tried. Maybe I will try this model.

Hey why not it's a lot of fun!

How Sweet!
What a nice article and so glad to see these comment exchanges.
Beautiful~*~

King of Commenters! Well I'm not the only one who notice then. I know a lot of people have notice. Your comment was a nice read Eric. Take care my friend!

Thanks a bunch @teamsteem! It feels great to have people even reading my comments and voting them up, very encouraging. Have a wonderful weekend, keep your smile and namaste :)

Yes, it seems that quite a few have noticed. Congratulations to you as well on your success on this amazing platform!

Hahaha! He is a charismatic guy!

Warm words of encouragement sure don't hurt... Thanks a lot, namaste :)

We call this a "self-fulfilling prophecy". I think @kus-knee told us the truth! And one shouldspend at least the same time in reading an commenting as in writing.

Loads of words of wisdom in your comment here, I can only agree, everyone would gain so immensely doing so. Thanks for the powerful thoughts you just shared with us here. Namaste :)

You are right, did you check out his comment earnings!

crowned comment king :D
congrats!

Thanks a bunch! It feels great, I'm on top of the Steem clouds! ;) Namaste :)

haha .. you should be
that's amazing
enjoy it :)

Actually you're right up there as well @englishtchrivy!

Congrats.. I follow your coments and indeed are usefull , kind and honest. Thats what this is all about. I made also some comments which were rewarded positive. that's makes us smile. We cant be all article creators. But we can inspire people by giving a good feedback on their work.. keep going

Solid kind words, thank you! Glad we are on the same boat here, namaste :)

Mr @eric-boucher you are such an inspiration to me. There's no other thing more fulfilling than to uplift, inspire, and encourage others, to interact with people and make wonderful connections to others. I stumbled upon this post as i was searching about commenting, it seems to be my niche rather than making posts. loled at myself. :D I just love to hear out other people, listen to them and to atleast in even a little way, inspire and bring to them positivity through commenting. :)

Much love from the Philippines!
Namaste.
(˘⌣˘ )

Your words rings true with me too! I am so glad to know that you are also inspired in the same fashion. All for one and one for all!

Namaste 😄

Nice! I had no idea about you! Thanks for pointing this out to us @kus-knee! Followed @eric-boucher can't wait to interact with ya here! Great pic of the rockies btw!

Thanks a bunch for your fellowship and nice comment @chrissymchavez!

Looking forward to seeing your work out here too. Namaste :)

This post received a 28% upvote from @randowhale thanks to @kus-knee! For more information, click here!

Well, let´s start by commenting myself then. Nice article to those of us who are new!

Hi @lunav, I'm glad that you found it!

Thanks @kus-knee! Still wondering around this place!

Not sure I can become that successful like @eric-boucher – I however think that is an important area of the entire platform. I would love to be better in that respect. We have the content creators (Poster) – we have the Investor and we have the Engager or Interactor (the one that comment) – these 3 are highly relevant to steemit!

What About You? As said I would love to become better in interacting but sometimes a time issue – you can hardly comment very in depth on every great psot you want to.

Will you check out @eric-boucher? Sure lol

Do you like to receive nice comments? Yes but not only the word “nice!”

Can you be an active commenter? I try but am an amateur

Steem on and thanks for the great post which needs to be resteemed @kus-knee

@uwelang, you are an amazing Steemit member in your own right! What I admire the most about you is that you stuck with it and remained POSITIVE during the hard fork when many became disgruntled. Who knows how many you helped and look where we are now. Amazing!

Thanks a lot my friend - what else can we do other than being positive

Nice!

See what I did there?

assume that comment is intended to be "funny"....?

Of course that's what it was. I read your post you said you liked comments but not just "nice"! then I wrote after it... "see what I did there" I was a joke simple as that.

good boy - I was just frightened a bit lol

Nice is better than nothing and there's no problem using it when it's interspersed with some more engaging comments.

I enjoy commenting more than I do posting blogs. It gives me much more freedom to express my toughts in a better way and since there is already set subject, I get inflow of response ideas and critiques if I must. Overall, commenting is possibly the best way of engaging directly with with Steemit community and of course, it creates many bonds. People tend to remember comments, like IRL. Thanks for this post!

It's amazing to read these "testimonials" about commenting and you're right about it creating bonds and the commenters being remembered.

Sure, I will check @eric-boucher out. I think commenting is kind of undervalued by new members. They sometimes make amazing content, but didnt get the notice they deserve. I recommend to build a following by commenting and meanwhile start to blog. You dont have to be perfect from beginning on. Opposite, I think it is better to learn, make mistakes, observe others, learn, struggle, then succes in small parts and just keep the work. Patience is also a key to success on steemit. Steem on, guys. And thank you for this recommendation.

This is great advice. The number one thing to remember is to enjoy yourself!

I saw what you did there! Good comment :)

It's very interesting to see that some people are able to get a decent amount of money from mostly comments! This just shows for versatile this platform actually is :)

I am a somewhat active commenter myself, but I can always improve, just like all of us. I think commenting is a good way to create relations, gain followers and get your name out there, and getting a comment is always nice.

The bottom line is we're here to engage, explore, have, fun, learn and then earn. The earning is the bonus. Millions and millions are doing what we do here on other platforms and there is no monetisation!

Yeah, that is true. I almost feel bad for some posters at Reddit who obviously spend several hours to create great posts and comments, and are only awarded with karma, while we can do the same and get rewarded with money ;)

@kus-knee, I am completely sold, ya Old Dog, you! haha

I now feel very inspired and compelled to check out @eric-boucher 's blog! I agree with you about offering valuable and consistent feedback! Although I would assert that commenting is better than no commenting at all, offering thoughtful and insightful feedback is extremely important. After all, the is social media and the point is to be engaging and keep the conversation going! Only after you've shown that you care about and respect other people enough to share in their experience and content, will they begin to care about you. You ultimately get what you give!

I very much enjoyed this article and will now begin following both you guys!

Thank you for you time and efforts invested into keeping steemit awesome!

Your friend,
~Hratch

"Only after you've shown that you care about and respect other people enough to share in their experience and content, will they begin to care about you. You ultimately get what you give!"

In writing that you have shown that you understand the secret to success!

Indeed my friend! I try to begin each year by reading "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill! I'm only now just chiseling up my rhetoric skills so that I can express and explain it better for those who want more out of life! Always love to connect with like-minded individuals such as yourself, who enjoy being expansive and making positive waves in this world! Keep up the great work and I look forward to our future exchanges! ~Hratch :)

Awesome!
I've gotta say coming back to Steemit/This post is a great way to start my morning. I'm glad I did.

I'm very grateful for this useful information. I do what suits me, though English is not my mother language and only Google translator helps me. I also prefer to read positive and meaningful comments, then one-word comments, like "nice" or "good". And follow Eric immediately! He is a great guy I think!

You are the type of member that needs to be appreciated for making an effort in a second language. I'm confident that in the future this platform will be multi lingual!

Thanks a bunch for your kind words too! Have a wonderful weekend, thrive on, keep your smile and namaste :)

Thank you! I'm very grateful to be here, and grateful to @homeartpictures, who has shown me this opportunity! Steemit is the best platform I've ever used to make friends and some money. But I miss other Hungarians, I've found only 2 of them. Where are the others? If they knew what a possibility to be here? But many people are lamenting how difficult life is.

I look up to him and I'm on the process of becoming like him :) I registered mid May and I'm proud to say that I now have a lot of comments. And I'm doing more.

Commenting gets quite addictive too with the positive responses from the people that receive them and with steemitboard making it an achievement.

One more characteristic in @eric-boucher comments is his Namaste ending which already gets incorporated with his profile here on Steemit. If we ask a veteran here in Steemit about who always says "Namaste" no doubt that person will guess eric. :)

Thanks for noticing this as it is truly something I strongly adhere to. Have a wonderful weekend, keep your smile, thrive on and namaste :)

Thank you ^_^
Same to you sir eric. Have a wonderful weekend, keep you smile, thrive on and Namaste.

Glad to read that you are enjoying being a commenter. Namaste is part of @eric-boucher's branding.

This is a great article and I will for sure start following @eric-boucher as well as you! I always try to bring some spirit in my comments, but I will for sure never reach an Eric Boucher. But your article encourages me to do better and as a side-effect, it will help to improve my English, which is not my mother language. Thanks for this, I will upvote it and my comment as well, of course. 😉

@pipurilla I admire you and so many others that are contributing here using a second language! That's great! Surely in the future we will have many languages being used here.

Also, English is @eric-boucher's second language as well!

Eric's definitely an inspiration! With the new chainBB interface, i think it's going to stimulate a conversation and we'll see more comments.

Good for those starting out to get some comments as well. The silence can be so frustrating.

Thank you so very much for the kind words, it is appreciated, especially as I see it out of the blue! Namaste :)

Yes that interface is awesome! I'm looking forward to using it more!

Yeah, I started to comment a lot more after using the chainbb interface. It is so much easier to find new people to interact with these. With the Steemit interface is somewhat bound to the ones I'm following, which can get a bit boring after a while, and finding new people to follow can be a long process.

That's an intersting point that you bring up. I've explores that interface but not used it extensively yet.

I've started on Steemit by commenting more than writing my own posts. It's more fun, and sometimes only takes a few upvotes to go to the top of the comments, as opposed to quickly disappearing among new posts.

I think that you've got a good strategy. Where else can you get rewarded like this for commenting!

Thank you so much for this article! I find commenting has been the most useful activity for me over the course of my first week on Steem. What is your advice about resteeming?

I resteem in moderation, as everyone following you gets it too, but if it is REALLY good, you just have to, right!?! I sure do. Welcome aboard the steam Train, keep your smile, thrive on and namaste :)

I'm glad that you are enjoying commenting. Advice on resteeming hmmm. I don't really use it as a strategy but but just to try and help someone that I'd like to see get more exposure. I should do some more research on this!

Yea, I'm not seeing a huge benefit in it until I have a massive number of followers.

He is definitely a beast on commenting! Like you said he will make you engage if he drops a comment on your posts! He is really impressive as you are Old Dog! Always something new that makes people engage even more.

It's good to read that you've noticed him as well! You are also an impressive member and I admire your kind, positive tone!

It's hard to miss him when he is everywhere with such great comments. I really admire him for that. Thank you for giving me the chance to tell him my opinion about him. I know I could say this to him until now, but there were to many things going on. Thank you Old Dog.

Such kind words, thank you! A beast hey!?! LOL!!! Namaste :)

I should have said 'the beauty and the beast' incorporated in one mind(yours). The beauty of your comments that can impress every person and the beast that is coming out when you are killing with your super comments. Namaste!

Wicked! Thanks for the good laughter too. I'm still on Seventh Steem Heaven. Namaste :)

Wow... I'll have to check him out. I checked Steemviz and have around $300 pending in author rewards and $0.18 for comments- I must be doing something wrong lol!

Let's fix that a little right now!

I really want to see these mountains, there what is in the picture...they look wow...I want photography them :)

Yes the mountains are spectacular!

Yes they are ... and very big :)

Thank you for the insightful information. It is so much fun connecting with people from all over

It is amazing how world wide in scope Steemit is!

Definitely agree, commenting brings interaction to the community and also praise the author's effort. I like how people spread positive energy through comments and posts.

Great post! Instead of commenting your article I commented the comment of the best commenter the world has ever seen. I you like, comment my comment.

Good sense of humour. I love that!

And I love your kindness. I also like to upvote comments with all my voting power, so I do here.
Your article contains a lot of wisdom. Again I can see we both are close thogether in our mind.
Cari saluti, cane vecchio!

Thanks @freiheit50. Perhaps we'll see each other in Munich again one day!

A worthy tribute, @kus-knee... I see @eric-boucher's comments in many places and have always admired that he can post kind and meaningful comments on so many people's posts.

For me, that's one of the single most important things that moved me from feeling simply "curious" about Steemit to becoming an active contributor: there is an authentic community here.

Sure, we have "friends" and connections on other social platforms, but getting a thumbs-up, a smiley face and a couple "agreed!" comments on a Farcebook post is just NOT the same level of engagement we have on Steemit. For years, I have been trying to "engage" people on other platforms... and it simply doesn't seem to "work." Ten comments on a Facebook post is a "huge success;" here it is almost a disappointment...

And that says a LOT for this place!

Actually originally I was planning on featuring 3 commenters in this article and the other two were you and @englishtchrivy! You are also a great one for lingering with your replies!!!

Oh, thank you-- that's very kind of you to say! I just wish I had more free time to keep up with the many interesting contributors I've found here on Steemit... but that "other world" clamors for my attention rather loudly.

Thats what I really like about the community with helping each other out with valuable tips like this. And helping others out with writting a whole article about them.

Also look at me how I follow your advice and voting myself up

It really is a helpful community. Upvoting yourself, hey, why not?!

I just now started following @eric-boucher (based on this post). I'm new here so examples like this are just the sort of thing I'm looking for as I learn the platform.

I've been unsure about upvoting my own content so I took special note of the fact the Eric upvotes his comments. So far I've seen mixed opinions on self-upvoting. Based on what I'm reading here my current plan is to self-upvote occasionally but highly selectively.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

You would do very well to learn from @eric-boucher's success.

As far as up voting your own comment it is controversial. Keep in mind a few points!

1.)Some are investors in Steem and would like to create a return. Can we complain if they do a little self up voting?
2.) There are many on this platform who have given away thousands in SBD or Steem as prizes so the funds are still spread around.
3.) Some up vote there own comment if they think that it's important and they'd lilke it to be more visible.
4.) Some may spend half an hour on a detailed comment should they be allowed to pay themselves for their efforts?

My rule of thumb: I only up vote my own comments if they have already received an up vote from someone else and I never overdo it. I invest a lot of time in communicating with people and trying to answer everyone's comments and so the odd tip is helpful.

You can use this tool to see what percentage of self voting you or others are doing. www.steemreports.com

Also @jerrybanfield wrote an excellent article on this topic.

https://steemit.com/steemit/@jerrybanfield/self-upvoting-by-the-top-100-authors-on-steem

I hope that this info helps!

Thanks for elaborating. Very helpful! I like the policy of self-upvoting only if it's already received a positive vote from someone else.

This is great knowledge here, and very helpful. As for me, all I do is give people a:

Thanks for the giff!

You're welcome!

Thanks for the tips. Is there a 'right time' when to start up-voting one's own comments? Is it not frowned-upon by the community?

That's a good question. I haven't seen any complaints about it. In my own case I usually only upvote my own comments if they already have at least one upvote!

Good tip! whew. I just upvoted mine lol!

Now you can, with a good conscience, do it again! :)

lol. I would tend to vote my own comment if it has both a vote and a decent reply.. It doesn't make sense to up vote one's own "Thank you!" comment methinks.

Thanks for introducing @eric-Boucher.... Going to follow for those occasional posts!! Have a great day!

Good idea!

This is a very good post. @kus-knee I've been following @eric-boucher

Great to hear he's a great guy!

I always appreciate positive and caring comments, and I always try to be that way! Commenting is undervalued, that's for sure.

You are indeed a good example of someone who makes encouraging comments! you are also successfully on Steemit....hey maybe there's a connection!

Could be

Hi @kus-knee, you now in a very nice way told me to up my game of commenting, I will definitely listen to the old dog, we all know old dogs cannot learn new tricks, but luckily I am not as old as you yet, although I am also one of the older users, in both physical age and time on steemit. Thanks for the very relevant post. How do you you like this comment? Is it better than my usual? Please let me know what you think.

It is a very nice comment and it deserves an upvote!

Thank you very much for the positive feedback and the upvote!!

Grazie del post! Non sono nuovissima su steemit ma ho tantissimo da imparare.....ma non conoscevo questo utente. I tuoi suggerimenti sono sempre utili...(non solo per i nuovi eh!)

Great, you might be new but you're important!

I make it a rule to never comment on posts, or to contradict myself publicly.

Ok, did you just break your rule? In any case you're getting paid for this one!

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

HEY MATT WHERE YOU AT, you haven't posted in 4 days. WE MISS YOU MAN COME BAAAACK!!!

I recently didn't post for four months.
I'm working on one at the moment.
Hope to get it up this evening, but if it's not just right it might be tomorrow or a month from now.
My blog is probably the piece of me that will last the longest, and every word is chosen carefully. I'd hate to have a post I almost got right, sit there in my blog for the rest of my life.

Cool, that is something that i i'd like to think

Yes I see @eric-boucher all over Steemit! He is doing a very important role here and that is engaging. Although my posts don't make much, I stay for the interaction. The comments and the getting to make new friends with folks around the world is awesome!
Thanks for clarifying the topic of upvoting your own comments. When I was a brand new Steemer, I saw one Steemer chastise another for upvoting his own comment. From then on I was leery of doing it, even though I saw the value of being higher on the page. I think I will start doing it then. Great post as always OD.

Yes the old upvoting your own comments dilemma! May be some have a problem with it but you can't please everyone. I usually only do it when my comment already has another upvote.

"Although my posts don't make much, I stay for the interaction."

I for one am glad that you're here! I love your stuff it's quirky, funny and often informative!

Thanks much OD. I enjoy your stuff as well! I truly am happy to be here and am enjoying the ride!

If people know you, you got more chance to get upvote on comments or blog so upvote as much as you can to introduce yourself, this is my secret ;)

They may not notice the upvote as much as the comment although both are important!

Great post and right down the line in my world here. I'm fairly new here at steemit and all I've really done so far is surf around meeting people in the community and commenting! It seems to working fine for me and is a lot of fun to boot. I feel I need to post but just haven't found the momentum to do so. Like I said surfing, reading, meeting and commenting is just a good time for me. My account is growing too which really surprised me! The one thing you mentioned that hit home with me was having a noticeable avatar? I realized I've yet to do this? This makes lots of sense and, well, I'm gonna get right on that! Thanks for the nuggets of knowledge! Enjoyed!

Glad that you found it helpful. I think that picking and sticking with an avatar can really help!

You have excellent posts. I like. Let's be friends. I @nezaigor want to be friends with you. I will evaluate your posts, and you will be mine. After all, there are not many friends. I already took the first step and added you as a friend. Have a nice day.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

So many ways to have funn in Steemit ! Comments are the best part,i love it !

You're great it as well!!!!!!!!!

honestly that's some very good tips! i should learn more from the King Commenter as well!

I'm glad that you found it helpful!

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

Hey kuss, I have only just started realizing how rewarding commenting can be. Not only for upvotes, but to actually get to know people and make friends is the true reward and now that i have discovered this, I am even more excited to be here.

Great to feel your excitement. This platform is REVOLUTIONARY! Power to the people!

Thanks of your sharing. I am new to Steemit and found the easiest way to connect to the community is to comment :)

It is certainly a great way to connect!

I find commenting to be the one, sure-fire, way to meet the interesting people on steemit. Sure, it's important to blog, but you may as well have just pasted your blog on wordpress instead of steemit, because nobody will read it if you have no audience.

Reading thru others' posts leads to finding recommended steemians with interesting blogs. That's how I ended up here, at this very moment. Keep teaching, guiding, mentoring and someday you will have that cottage industry!

Thanks for your input. There is an amazing amount of content being produced here!

Upvoted. Followed. Follow me and I'll follow back.

Just kidding.

I hate those kind of empty comments. But the kids learn quick on here. Hopefully it will eventually be common knowledge that you should at least mention something that shows you got the gist of the post. Doesn't even have to be that thoughtful, really. Just enough to let people know you're not in it just to gain a bunch of "followers."

God points and I like your sense of humor!

Great post @kus-knee, it's clear why @shayne recommended following you.

You also answered a question that's been rattling around in my head for a few days, namely "is it ethical to upvote my own comments?"

Thanks.

upvoted and resteemed

Yes, well I have no problem with members upvoting their own comments, others might but we can't please everyone. :) I wonder if @eric-boucher has something to add on that point.

Congratulations @kus-knee! You have completed some achievement on Steemit and have been rewarded with new badge(s) :

Thanks for the image!

You welcome my dear friend..followed...))

This is good stuff. I had no idea that commenting could be so successful. I have just been commenting frequently and trying to be a nice guy and simply just that. Now that I look at some of my payouts I see that this netted me much more than I thought. Thanks so much - jim

It's amazing isn't it!?

Thank you sooooo much for this article. It's been only couple of days I am using steemit. I love to comment. Now instead of doing it on Fb or Instagram I will actively start using steemit. This is the great way to socialise and earn $$ along the way.. Let's make steemit Bigger!! Stronger!!! Louder!! Cheers

"Let's make steemit Bigger!! Stronger!!! Louder!!"
YES!

Upvote please.. Thanks a lot in advance.. Haha

Thank you very much for your advice I have now followed @eric-boucher as you recommended. I want to grow in the Steemit community and I always value advice and try to do my best to put it into action. Have a blessed day.

Nice to see you here @marymg2014 you've got a lot to offer with your medical background and I enjoy your contributions! Say hello to the fireman that swept you off your feet!

How do I remember those details about you? From one of your comments to me!

You are so sweet. I am sending a hug your way! BTW do you know that when you hug someone it lowers your blood pressure?http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/02/06/hugging.aspx

How true. My wife and I do a big bear hug every morning. I love Dr. Mercola by the way!

I have a question .... the recent hard fork about upvotes how many are recommended and did that take place yet?

You can always check your voting power in percentage at steemd.com or other such sites. If you vote at 100% I've heard that a figure of 20 per day is optimal. I just vote away and have fun as I'm no expert on that stuff!

I enjoy reading other posts too so maybe I will just continue as I have been doing. Thanks for your response.

Upvoted! Man, I keep learning something important from you. I'll follow @eric-boucher right meow! 😹
You really make Steemit delightful. Thank you, sir.

Thanks so much for the kind expressions. It's fun helping out and that always leads to success in whatever form!

I agree. And your hard work is always appreciated!

I read somewhere (not sure if it was you), that you generate more hashrate out of commenting than any other means in steemit. By upvoting and replying to comments you are also opening the door for potential follower(s). Commenting in steemit is not to be taken lightly!

Yes commenting is very important!

Foto veramente buffa my friend!!! Complimenti! (;

Thanks!

Im surprised i am the first one taking the cue and commeting ahhaha. Really appericate the post, great for new users like me to understand how to engage on this platform.

I do have a follow up question. When i comment does the orginal author get some of the rewards for upvotes on the comment or does it solely go to the commenter.

Also if upvoting your own comment is wise, is commenting on your own comment aswell?

@kus-knee

wow this post is actually really helpfel! i just got 2$ by upvoting my own comment! keep it up (:

One day you shall! For now here's one form me!

Will you check out @eric-boucher?
Yes, absolutely.. I know you give good and honest personal assessment to @eric-boucher.

Do you like to receive nice comments?
Not really, I like nice, honest and give good critic

Can you be an active commenter?
I hope so... but sometimes I give short comment such as good article, nice etc. This happen when I know and read the content a posting, but my condition in not good, tired also my brain was changed mode in slow mode. I am not native English speaker, so It is hard to leave a long comment in not good condition. ...Yes.. It is easier to give good comment, that like as food tester. Easier to give comment about chief cooking. Nice!:)

@happyphoenix! You are also an awesome commenter!

Thank you so much! :)

I did not really know of @eric-boucher! It's great to see people so dedicated to their comments. I love his pictures in the post you linked by the way!

Yes it's good to know and be visited by @eric-boucher!

Thanks for the kind words regarding my picture, it comes from my last post about the Canadian Rockies... Namaste :)

When I grow up, I want to be like @eric-boucher
Thank you for this meaningful post

He's certainly a good example! Thanks for coming!

Nowadays Im also on more commenting than posting, let's see how it goes.

nicht das du mir ins Wasser fällst!! safety first!!

Safety is very important!

Great article. Thank you for bringing these points to our attention. I certainly notice a difference in the quality of comments on steemit v other platforms like youtube. Financial incentives are clearly having a positive role in stopping people just being dicks and trolling.

Yes the trolling is not much of a problem here as people are motivated to safeguard their reputation!

That's something I really appreciate about the platform, that it disincentivises bad behavior.
While it also likely dissuades trolls from even joining the platform. Win-win!

I like that to. I'm here to have fun and enjoy myself!

I was literally just asking myself this question last night/today!
I appreciate you showing a prime example with proof of the "strategy" which I see as much more than a strategy. Vis-à-vis I think you nailed it with the positive tone. That can't be underscored enough, IMO. Also, frequency builds up momentum or steam/steem... get it? Ok, cheesy joke. But I try to keep in mind that climbing a mountain is achieved by first starting with a single step, then putting one foot in front of the other consistently. It's easy to get discouraged even when given a proven technique that works, such as this. But I use this as motivation to keep on going and building in the community. Thanks for adding real value. -- Followed.

I think that you have a good understanding of the role that our comments have. As a few others have commented here if we focus on helping others succeed and feel happy we will always make positive progress.

"If we focus on helping others succeed and feel happy we will always make positive progress."

Thank you sir –– For the feedback and wise words, well stated. Succinct. I tend to get wordy,
so I appreciate when one can sum up such concepts eloquently in fewer words. Even hone in closer to what I'm aiming at.

I guess that's what this is all about; Sharing. Community: a head-nod, hattip, handshake and pat on the back. Acknowledgement for - and pointing in the right direction.

Thanks so much for this post. Posts like this are very helpful for newcomers. My expertise is gardening and that's what I bring but learning the whole economics around the platform is very important also. This has been a steep learning curve for me but I'm slowly catching on.

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

Gardening is a great topic and I'm sure that you have much to offer! I just had a look at your blog and you'll do great here in your niche...just have fun!

This platform is great because it's a painless way for crypto to be adopted on a mass scale and that's exciting!

I am having fun and actually learning as well as teaching. Thanks for replying.

This is awesome, an encouragement to me as a newbie, i may not come up with my own post but being supportive to other people's work attracts love and friendship, I found it easier meeting with nice people on steemit than any other social network, i don't know why, but I think it is so because this is a place where one can really express him/herself. @kus-knee I've gone through some of your articles and found out that the good comments accompanying your posts where as a result of good posts from you. I appreciate, and for you @eric-boucher keep it up sir, this is you, it takes good sacrifices to have good rewards.

"i may not come up with my own post but being supportive to other people's work attracts love and friendship, I found it easier meeting with nice people on steemit than any other social network,"

This is very important information!

Commenting is king! I tell all new people that they can really gauge how everything works at first by commenting and it's a great habit to stay in. Well done on Eric. Thats quite the career he has carved out by it!

@meesterboom! You are such a great example of using commenting as a springboard to Amazing success. For you I won't write an article but a documentary film is in order!

Maybe we should just jump straight to a feature film with you playing yourself! Hey I'm getting excited about the possibilities!

A feature film! That would be a fine thing. I think Tom Cruise might be best suited to play me thought LOL! ;O)

He's not a good enough actor to play you...plus he's too old!

Too old yes, I love your style old dog!!!

I did checked @eric-boucher and also start to follow him. I think comments are a great opportunity to interact with nice people, and to talk about subjects that you are interested. This platform is not only about wining $ it is also about people.

"This platform is not only about wining $ it is also about people."

You have the right attitude!

"To each man his gift" that's his specialty and he is simply being who he is. Sadly most people waste their time either trying to be like others or complaining.

You make an astute observation! Complaining is usually a waste of time and we can all improve in different areas!

It´s an interesting Post and a nice introduction of @eric-boucher :)
I directly checked out his profile and he´s really writing great comments. It´s encouraging to read through them and I think I´ll try a little harder from today on to improve my comments a bit as well to get closer to the quality he´s delivering :)
I mean as you question it above, I guess everyone likes nice comments on his or her work so it´s definitely something that might make you and others enjoy Steemit even more.

Awesome to read of your goal!

I like to comment, but if I have no words to describe my opinion on the post, but I liked it, then I just put my voice and that's it. I think it's much better than an inappropriate and stupid comment. As they say, you want to seem, you better not say anything. If to comment, then only on the case and in the topic.

Good points and I think that you are doing way that you are contributing!

@kus-knee,
I take my hat off to you for bringing attention to the importance of adding creativity and sincerity to our posts. We are all on a journey at developing our skills so that we continue add value to the Steemit site. I appreciate @eric-boucher for his efforts to raise the bar and be an role model within our community. May we all work diligently to reach for the same level of quality, while also maintaining our unique approach that reflects our individual personalities and perspectives. Thank you again for posting such a relevant piece of content that I'm sure will be a resource for all of us.

Thanks so much for chiming in. You're right, let's be ourselves and have fun. This platform is like no other!

It was my pleasure! I am very hopeful to see where this journey will lead us but I believe it will be quite positive overall! :)

Very interesting work, my friend @kus-knee! You write very interesting! Thank you for your support! Have a good day! I hope you will enjoy this wonderful white bouquet!

Thanks for the gift. I'm touched!

Thank you fpr the insight @kus-knee. I did went to @eric-boucher to take a peek and follow.

As someone who is new to the platform, I do get cold feet in posting contents. Reading posts and commenting might be more an outlet to express myself than writing my own.

I am still stumbling here and there in steemit, but i know i will get the hang of it soon. Once again thank you for such a helpful post. This is like a lighthouse guide for a plankton in the middle of steemit universe. Cheers!

English version below

I found @ eric-boucher thanks to the fact that he commented an article in French (my native language). His name typically québecois piqued my curiosity and I went to see his profile. This is where I came across your post @ kus-knee and it delights me! I absolutely agree that comments are just as important as post, they actually make them alive! It is so nice to receive a comment, especially a positive one, that encourages us to continue and that gives us good advice. Definitely, I could and I will become an active and positive commenter !!!! Thank you for this inspiring and motivating sharing! Good continuity!

One of the best posts here. I have been here for 2 weeks and have come across several of @eric-boucher's comments.

The first post I read was interesting. I don't remember what it was. What caught my eye was his "All for one and one for all! Namaste! :) Loved that.

I am in the habit of sifting quickly through the comments, looking for the longer ones and all of his responses are long and very interesting. Of course now I notice that most of his comments are right at the top, owing to the number of votes... I guess.

I am also in the habit of sharing my thoughts on posts that catch my interest. I cannot just post for the sake of posting and my short posts are generally to wish people on a special occasion. Of course there is a lot of learn from The Commenting King. :)

Thank you @kus-knee for writing this post on commenting, as I was not sure if commenting is an acceptable way of meeting and getting to know people.

Thank you @eric-boucher for the immense value you bring to this platform.

PS: I have been practicing yoga and meditation for more than 15 years, and I know exactly how meditation can change lives. I am surviving today after everything I had gone through in life, solely because I am able to keep my mind under control.

I know this post is a few days old, but I had to comment.

Wow, just found this article and love it!
I know its old but I hope you still see my comment. I would want to feature this in one of my ~(~Q2C2~)~ Articles but its also a old and you would not get rewards...Anyways its a great post and thanks for posting it. Atlas you got rewarded handsomely for it!
Gotta love Steemit, this post will pay for a day of one of those vacations ur going on hahaha

Meaningful. Lol.

I hope the pun was understood, commenting further just in case. Agree @kus-knee, commenting on posts actually helps a lot in community-building. This is a venue to share further your personality that hopefully others appreciate. Also a comment is a huge affirmation on the content creator, allowing them to know that their work was read, and had stimulated the reader's thinking mind. The positive outcome from this activity is worth every second spent in thought-composition.
Great post!

Hey wow, thanks for the nice input. You make some good points especially this:

"Also a comment is a huge affirmation on the content creator, allowing them to know that their work was read, and had stimulated the reader's thinking mind"

Thanks for sharing!

Always happy to share my thoughts. That is what is so awesome with this community, one is always encouraged to extend one's self to others, at the same time accept the extension others are offering. See you around the community!
